The terrorist loving parents of Palestinian martyr Rachel Corrie are seeking to extend their 15 minutes of fame.
They are now suing Caterpillar Inc, because Caterpillar made the bulldozer which Corrie used in her attempt to win a Darwin Award.
Of course the AP in their usual clueless way makes Corrie out to be the victim.
Rachel Corrie, a student at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, was standing in front of a home in a refugee camp in Rafah, a Gaza Strip city near the Egyptian border, on March 16, 2003, when a bulldozer plowed over her.
So in the AP version… “She was just standing there, when out of the blue, this bulldozed magically appeared and PLOWED her over. Nobody even knew it was coming.”
Her parents are also suing Israel. (of course)
I wear it as a Badge of Honor that I voted for the President these people campaigned against.

Wow. What a frivolous lawsuit. If anything, Caterpillar will be able to recover their legal expenses from the Corries because there is simply no way in hell they should have been brought into this case.

I remember railing against the internet intifada idiots when they used a bunch of misleading pictures to portray the Corrie event. Namley using shots from different areas (which had different dozers) in an attempt to show the story took place differently than it really did.
The Corrie family has always struck me as naive and ignorant about their daughters actions.
Regardless, her supporters are mostly moonbat idiots, who have little or no understanding of the situation in Israel, or who champion the Palestinian cause without questioning the evil tactics used.

What her parents are doing is reprehensible. But talking about the dead in such disparaging terms is almost as bad. She used poor judgment and lost her life because of it. Referring to here as a Darwin award nominee or as St. Pancake is pretty tasteless.

Any lawyer will tell you that the first rule of filing a lawsuit is to sue anyone and everyone that could even remotely, possibly, in even a minute way have anything to do with an incident. If the jury wants to lay blame somewhere, it gives them more options. Sooner or later, they will hit upon something, somewhere, that someone did and hang the judgment on them. Including a major corporation makes that even easier because “they have plenty of money.” If the jury thinks her death was wrongful, they will find a rationale for paying her. Hopefully, the judge will be smart enough to dismiss the cases against the silly defendants.

This is illegal people. You don’t have to like it – but maybe you should understand it before you pop off? It is illegal to sell a product to a person or entity if you know that that product will be used in an illegal manner, and in a lethal manner.
Dissent is patriotism. It’s the first, and most important of our rights gauranteed to us in our system.

First, do you think that Israel went into the local Caterpillar dealer and said, “Gimme one of them thar bulldozers so I can go violate me some human rights?” No, they went in and ordered a bulldozer. Sure, it was “specially designed” but what exactly does that mean? Does it mean that it had the operator’s compartment armored? In that region of the world, that would be a wise thing to do on ANY piece of equipment. Maybe it was for building roads. Maybe it was for clearing lots for new housing. Maybe, it was for demolishing houses. There is not one single one of those activities that could reasonably be foreseen as being a “human rights” issue.
Second, in your scenario, anything anyone sells to Israel could be held to the same standard. I assume that’s what you would like anyway from the tone of your argument. General Motors sells the Israeli military trucks and the IDF drives in those trucks to enforce the laws of Isael. Is GM liable? I mean they are military trucks, so GM should have known they were using them for military purposes.
Third, who decides that human rights are being violated? I ahven’t read or heard anything that suggests that tearing down those houses was a human rights violation. Wnating it to be so doesn’t make it so.

And, on that particular day, according to both the actual photographs and the Israeli Army, the bulldozer was there to clear brush and level some land. The house was not scheduled to be destroyed.
And, the tunnel into the house, through which terrorists smuggled weapons, drug dealers smuggled drugs and pimps smuggled whores suggest that the “poor” pharmacist probably had a nice thing going. Until he got caught.

Says who? “International law” may arguably apply to the U.S. government — it doesn’t, but that’s another point — but it most certainly doesn’t hold weight over a private American company. Caterpillar violated no U.S. law in selling bulldozers to the Israeli Army, any more than Apache did by selling them helicopter gunships — which are much more obviously intended to kill people and destroy things. And there is nothing “illegal” about the Israeli operations, UN babble notwithstanding. This lawsuit is a publicity stunt, nothing more.

I’m getting a little tired of this annoying cliché. Dissent in America is neither patriotic nor treasonous — it’s merely an exercise of one’s rights. (By the logic above, being religious in the U.S. is likewise “patriotism,” since it’s the second right guaranteed by the 1st Amendment.)

In what way was she brave? If she really believed that the Israelis were out to get her, she was merely being stupid, since it’s not as if she could fight back or make a difference. Of course, she didn’t believe this — she assumed, like most other Western protestors, that those evil Israelis wouldn’t dare go through her, and she could delay or stop them — hence the brightly colored clothing. Well, she miscalculated, and ended up getting squashed.
Does this bother me? Not a whit. And not because I’m in awe of her “bravery” — it’s because I’m disgusted by her arrogant presumption that as a Westerner, she is more valuable than the people she was trying to shield. Not to mention her working along with, and shilling on behalf of, terrorists who would happily use the weapons they smuggled through tunnels she was trying to shield, to kill lots of genuinely innocent and worthwhile human beings.

Let’s remember that these same bulldozers were used in the Jenin “massacre”. The Palestinians had thought they’d kill a lot of Israeli soldiers by mining the streets of Jenin, but the bulldozers cleared the way by making new pathways through the city, probably saving more lives than they cost on either side.

You guys need to watch out – there are a lot of people like me who switched to Repubs after 911, but aside from defence issues we clearly don’t have a great deal in common. This doesn’t bode well for Republican fortunes in the longterm, if this kind of extremism becomes the norm 🙁

Ok, so its not your traditional university, fine. Are you saying that if she had gone to a traditional school, gotten regular grades (Evergreen’s grading system doesn’t seem so bad to me, if a bit hippyish), did not create her own classes (which you can do at very many traditional universities), then she wouldn’t have gone to Palestine and sat in front of a bulldozer? You don’t think there may have been other things going on here? How come we don’t hear more stories about dead, foolish Evergreen students if they are pushing them towards such ends? I did my undergrad studies at a traditional, state university that is very heavy on research, science, and medicine. There were still socialists and “free palestine” groups handing out flyers and talking about going to the ME to be human shields, and instructors who were sympathetic to their causes (and ones that were not). But you seem to simply be on an “university professors are all Ward Churchills and terrorist sympathizers” kick, so I doubt that would convince you of anything.
