On the anniversary of the Saddam Hussein-ordered chemical attack in 1988 on the northern Kurdish town of Halabja, an attack that killed 5,000 people, Iraq’s first freely elected parliament in half a century began its opening session Wednesday.
AP reports that the parliament’s 275 members convened in an auditorium amid tight security in the heavily guarded Green Zone with U.S. helicopter gunships hovering overhead.
Minutes before convening, at least a half dozen explosions detonated a few hundred yards away. The U.S. military said two mortar rounds landed inside the zone but caused no injuries.
/snark on – The liberals must be preoccupied with the planning of the “Congressional nominations obstructionist campaign” and forgot to send this months “freedom fighter” check…. /snark off
1988?
Reagan must have had some strong words for him. Right?
Just John, just like Clinton had tons of strong words for Arafat?
Actually, Clinton did have strong words for Arafat, if what I read was accurate. Clinton was blaming Arafat for scuttling Clinton’s legacy by refusing to accept everything the PLO had claimed to want when it was offered by Israel’s Sharon government.
But I don’t think that’s what Henry’s talking about.
Damn McGehee you can read me like a book. Hah
Or to put it another way, just like Roosevelt had extremely strong words for Stalin DURING World War II?
Since we are seeing the blossoming of freedom from Afghanistan, to Iraq, to Lebanon and now Iran, I’m taking the liberty to repost links from “Raymond” in an earlier thread: “Iranian People’s Shock & Awe in Tehran and here.
Something is happening in Iran”
