I’m not sure what she’s trying to accomplish with her claim she’s never seen a garbage disposal before, even though she says she’s from the 21st Century, the Bronx in New York City, but that’s the story she’s peddling on Instagram:
‘I am told this is a garbage disposal. I’ve never seen a garbage disposal. I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived. It is terrifying. I don’t know what it’s for, or what its purpose is. Like, food scraps? Like, is this environmentally sound?’
We’re supposed to believe she doesn’t understand the simple process of a garbage disposal, which has been around for decades, but that she has no problem understanding how a pressure cooker works. Remember, she came to notoriety during for her Instagram videos in which she made dinner in her InstaPot and asked viewers to share their favorite recipes. Which is why I’m calling bullshit on this stunt.
As I said earlier, I don’t know what her angle is but I can offer a couple educated guesses. Perhaps she’s trying to look “adorably naive” in an effort to make those attacking her look mean. Maybe she’s using this as way to get people to abandon their garbage disposals for environmental reasons, as a means to get people to accept her Green New Deal in baby steps. (You know, to boil the frog slowly.) I don’t know exactly what she’s doing here, but I’m sure she’s got an agenda, and I guarantee you her agenda is not one where she argues for more freedoms for Americans.
Her post reminded me of the Bush/Clinton campaign in 1992 when media pushed the fake news story that Bush showed “amazement” at a grocery store price scanner. That’s not what happened, of course, but media used their made-up story to insist that Bush was too old and out of touch to be president. Will today’s media use her Instagram post to argue that Ocasio-Cortez is too stupid and out of touch to be in Congress?
I’m not going to hold my breath even though it is the truth.
