The murders at the AME church in Charleston has Democrats, and especially President Obama trying to reopen the gun control debate. Democrats – and some Republicans – want your guns. This effort is despite the reassurances given during Obama’s campaigns that he respected the 2nd Amendment.
In other words, if you like your gun you can keep your gun. What went unsaid is, “…and you can use the $2,500 your family is going to save on their health insurance with ObamaCare to buy some damn fine guns.”
That was then. This is now.
“…this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.”
Here we have a situation where the President is either: a-ignorant; b-lying; c-using the Charleston tragedy to disrespect many of our long time allies; or d-all of the above.
Consider the following countries that our President no longer considers “advanced.”
Australia. “Just after the morning rush at the Lindt cafe on Monday, Man Haron Monis held up a gun and began a 16-hour hostage crisis. Here Guardian Australia reporters detail the key moments of the siege that ended in the death of two victims.”
Jolly old England.”The Cumbria shootings was a killing spree that occurred on 2 June 2010 when a lone gunman, Derrick Bird, killed 12 people and injured 11 others before killing himself in Cumbria, England.”
Denmark. “Danish lone wolf ‘jihadi’ who was gunned down by police after terror shootings which killed film director and Jewish security guard – weeks after he was released from prison over knife attack.”
France. “On the morning of 7 January 2015 at about 11:30 local time, two brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, forced their way into the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Armed with assault rifles and other weapons, they killed 11 people and injured 11 others in the building. After leaving, they killed a French National Police officer outside the building.”
Norway. “The 2011 Norway attacks were two sequential lone wolf terrorist attacks against the government, the civilian population, and a Workers’ Youth League (AUF)-run summer camp in Norway on 22 July 2011. The attacks claimed a total of 77 lives.”
France again. “On 9 January 2015, Amedy Coulibaly, who had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, armed with a vz. 58 submachine gun, an AKS-74U assault rifle, and two Russian-made Tokarev pistols, entered and attacked the people in a Hypercacher kosher food superette at Porte de Vincennes in east Paris. He killed four people, all of whom were Jews, and took several hostages.”
Germany. “The Winnenden school shooting occurred on the morning of 11 March 2009 at a secondary school in Winnenden, Baden-Württemberg, in southwestern Germany, followed by a shootout at a car dealership in nearby Wendlingen. The shooting spree resulted in 16 deaths, including the suicide of the perpetrator…”
Belgium. “On 24 May 2014, a gunman opened fire at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels, Belgium, killing four people. Three died at the scene; a fourth was taken to hospital and died on 6 June.”
France. Again! “The Toulouse and Montauban shootings were a series of three gun attacks targeting French soldiers and Jewish civilians in the cities of Montauban and Toulouse in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France in March 2012.”
Canada. “Michael Zehaf-Bibeau … drove several blocks to the National War Memorial and jumped out. Armed with an old hunting rifle and a long knife tied to his wrist, he fired on two ceremonial guards, killing the unarmed Cpl. Nathan Cirillo before storming Parliament Hill in an attack that pushed terrorism to the top of Ottawa’s agenda.”
Obama and his allies say they want “sensible” and “reasonable” restrictions on guns. What they fail to tell us is exactly what those restrictions will be and, which crimes would have been deterred by those “sensible and reasonable” restrictions. The end of the discussion, which they refuse to have, is that they want confiscation.
The problem is, that doesn’t work either. Guns are outlawed in Britain. Here was the result.
Gun crime has almost doubled since Labour came to power as a culture of extreme gang violence has taken hold.
In some parts of the country, the number of offences has increased more than five-fold.
The problem, Mr. President, isn’t the gun. It’s the culture. And, for the most part, it’s the culture in the black community where the murder rate is about eight times higher than the rest of the nation.
We’re not likely to have that conversation though, are we Mr. President.
