Florida, like other states, is going through redistricting; despite being the party in power and having the ability to re-draw the political maps, it can often lead to confusion and speculation about your motives. Enter Florida Representative Will Weatherford. Weatherford is the House Chairman of Redistricting and a prominent supporter of Mitt Romney in the sunshine state who has come under fire because Rep. Allen West’s district will now be four points more democratic than it is now.
So is it a hit job on one of the most outspoken and beloved members (by Conservatives) of Congress? Or is it simply just the way the ball bounced as Weatherford states on his Facebook page?
There are rumors that the Florida Legislature has targeted Congressman Allen West. This is patently false. I personally have supported and endorsed Allen West. I will continue to support this extraordinary member of Congress who has brought a much needed conservative voice to Washington, D.C.
However, my personal support cannot and will not trump the Constitution.
It’s easy to see how speculation could arise, when the man who is in charge of redistricting in the state is also a cheerleader for the establishment candidate; meanwhile, one of the anti-establishment’s favorite sons just saw his re-election prospects get just a bit tougher.
Javier Manjarres of the Shark Tank, reiterates that while he believes that Florida higher ups are definitely maneuvering for their future political aspirations at the possible expense of Allen West, he feels that Will Weatherford and Mitt Romney may be getting a “raw deal.” Allahpundit at Hot Air doesn’t seem to think it would behoove Romney to be involved in such chicanery.
Personally I can say that if the Florida GOP establishment is conjuring up a way to oust Rep. Allen West, they do so at their own peril.
UPDATE: Interesting, looks like West is giving them all a nice big sh*t burger to eat.
