Okay, so we haven’t rebuilt the Twin Towers. That is truly unfortunate.
And the memorial to United Flight 93 isn’t the greatest, either.
I KNOW America can do better.
Ah, but wait, she HAS.
I present to you, the USS New York. The USS New York is a warship forged from 8 tons of steel taken from the wreckage of the Twin Towers!!
This is the perfect weapon to employ in the War on Terror. Oops! I meant the Overseas Contingency Operations.
The ships motto is “I’m here, to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away”.
Oh wait, no, that’s an Alanis song.
The actual motto is “Never Forget”
Props to the men and women who worked on this American masterpiece, which will be commissioned Nov 7th.
St Petersburg Times elaborates:
“Their dedication and devotion to duty has been, to say the least, epic,” Philip Teel, a vice president for Northrop Grumman Corp. and head of its ship systems division, told a Navy League dinner audience in New York on March 22.
“It sounds trite, but I saw it in their eyes,” Teel said in a separate interview. “These are very patriotic people, and the fact that the ship has steel from the trade center is a source of great pride. They view it as something incredibly special. They’re building it for the nation.”
Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, La., to cast the ship’s bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, “those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,” recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. “It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.”
So, I ask again. Can we build it?
Yes, we can!
