I’d like to take just a moment to thank Kevin for the opportunity to guest post at WizBang. With the departure of JayTea, Kevin has some big shoes to fill. He obviously knows that, but instead of just asking an A-List blogger to join, he chose to give a group of unknowns a chance. For that, we are most certainly grateful.
In the comments to Shawn Mallow’s thank-you post, JayTea jokingly explained his approach to blogging:
The secret is simple: have no life. That was the key to my success.
He’s right in a way, of course. It takes a lot of time to keep up with current events, and it takes a sharp, clear mind to be able to generate brief, intelligent, and well-written commentaries day after day. As Clint Eastwood famously said, “A man’s got to know his limitations.” I’ve never considered myself to be “clever”, and I’m my own worst critic, so I do not write quickly. I knew I could never “replace” JayTea or any other really great blogger.
And frankly, when I saw that Baron von Ottomatic had thrown his hat into the ring as well, I immediately knew who the better man was. JayTea was invited to join WizBang because of his excellence as a commenter and as a Weekly Caption Contest winner. Our good Baron also excels at both of those.
I guess that’s why I feel humbled to have been a part of WizBang. I’ve blogged on my own site for several years, and while I’ve occasionally garnered some A-list linkage, I’m still a small fish. I’ll second what Shawn Mallow said — it is really a thrill to read all the comments, and to know that your posts are being read by thousands instead of dozens.
So again, thanks — to Kevin, for his cordial invitation, and to the readers of this blog, for their insight, opinions, and support. It’s been simply fantastic.
