“George Harleigh” is a widely quote critic of the Bush administration, who famously said, “The very future of this Republic may well rest on whether or not anyone can, or will, stop George W. Bush” has gone missing, and it’s feared that he’s been eliminated. Harleigh, a retired Political Science professor from Southern Illinois University, is said to have worked in both the Nixon and Reagan administrations.
Foul play is suspected.
Follow the hunt for George at Classical Values.

Likely he’s hiding in my sock drawer.
Men in Black got him. He’s back to his own special universe. If only they’d go after Cynthia and Mother Sheehan.
He’s in a cafe somewhere having tea with George Sand and George Eliot.
Did anyone check under Lee’s bed? I’ll bet that he is hiding in amongst the dust bunnies and dirty sports socks
OJ Simpson is on it!!! Look Owwt!!
Maybe he wanted to expand his herizons and get some additional post college education at the World Toilet College – see related story at blogrfactor.blogspot.com (post date June 22)

I just checked – he’s not there.

That’s not what his mom said was under there….
Hmmm.
All kidding aside this is one massively strange story.
Frankly it reminds me, in a way, of some guy here in NYC who ends up being the go-to guy for any man-on-the-street stories. You don’t actually get the independent viewpoint of a random person. You get the viewpoint of a guy that’s in the rolodex of most NYC reporters.
I really have to wonder just how many sources are legitimate? And if people are willing to publish based on the sourcing from someone who doesn’t exist but did make the effort to present a facade, then what about all those stories that depend on an “unnamed source”?
I heard that Harleigh is on hiatus with Lucy Ramirez in Texas somewhere.
Better check Ira Einhorn’s house. He might be buried in the basement.
I’ve always wonder why they put “anonymous administration sources” when “I” or “my editor” would have been more accurate.
I wonder if he’s using the computer in Glenn Greenwald’s guestroom.
I was wondering why they were digging up that farm here in Michigan again.
Looks like CHB has a long history of creating bogus quote sources, then when they’re uncovered, apologizing and claiming they were hoodwinked.
Even looks like their on-and-off again publisher, once brought in to clean up the mess, then fired, then rehired, may himself not exist. Ditto their ‘ombudsman’ and their ‘panel of journalists’.
And it continues, with a new crop of ‘political scientists” being quoted.
Probably just one guy with a dozen sock pupets, working in his undershorts, in his mom’s basement.
Wow, is Karl Rove brilliant or what? He plants a few damning quotes in the media for the bigger payout, proof that the left is full of B.S. It’s so obvious, this is just more of the same tactic he used to set up Dan Rather with MemoGate.
Check with Jerry Falwell; he’ll tell you that Clinton did it.
So basically one of the most damaging (and libelous) stories of the 2004 campaign — Bush was (is) acting unstable — was a complete fabrication supported by a source that also is a complete fabrication. And this was a story that ran big in the MSM.
Don’t worry folks. He will turn up when our bombers get the word to take out the powers that be in Iran.
