Dallas Police reported:
Tonight it appears that two snipers shot ten police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally. Three officers are deceased, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition
The death toll later went up to four, and one more injured. The perpetrators appear to have planned and executed an ambush against police in a pre-planned, calculated manner. They specifically did not target the protester, who by all accounts were peacefully marching and being protected and escorted by police.
Police initially were looking for this person of interest.
It appears he has turned himself in, and may not have been involved. The Dallas News video below shows him among the crowd after the shootings, still armed but not shooting. It is legal in Texas to openly carry rifles and pistols.

The protests followed police shootings of two black men by police in Baton Rogue, Louisiana and St. Paul, Minnesota. The aftermath of the shooting of Philando Castile, a 32-year-old school cafeteria manager, was captured on video by his girlfriend on Facebook.
