For the last 25 years crime, and especially violent crime, has been dropping like a rock. Democrats are in control, especially in US cities, and their assault on police doing their jobs is taking it’s toll. Crime is back on the way up, and it’sskyrocketing.
Here’s what violent crime stats look likehistorically.
The lower line is the Bureau of Justice Statistics and they use a different method to measure violent crime than does the FBI, but the lines move together.
Using the BJS numbers, simply because they go back farther, Through the 70s and into the 90s, 50 people per 1,000 were vicitms of a violent crime. From the mid-90s through last year, crime has been dropping, to the point in 2009 where only 17 people per 1,000 were violent crime victims. That trend continued through 2014.
In the last couple of years we’ve seen some dramatic cultural changes in our cities. Cities tend to be electing far left Mayors, and far left Mayors appeal heavily to minority communities. See Bill de Blasio’s election in NYC.
Progressive mayors tend to declare war on police and police tactics. See NYC and Baltimore for recent examples. One recent difference is the US Department of Justice is jumping on the bandwagon as well.
Ferguson seems to be the catalyst.
Michael Brown, a thug, attacked a police officer who shot and killed Brown in self defense. A grand jury found no cause to indict the officer and Eric Holder’s Justice Department couldn’t find any reason either. The transcripts of the grand jury hearing have been made public, and so far no one else has found cause to criticize their judgment.
Brown turned into a crisis too good to waste. While the Justice Department couldn’t find any problems with Brown’s shooting, they did manage to find pervasive racism in the Ferguson police departement because they wrote too many traffic tickets to black drivers. They forced Ferguson into a consent decree that effectively gives the DoJ control over policing in Ferguson.
The “Black Lives Matter” movement grew out of Brown’s death. The correct name for the movement should be “Black Lives Only Matter When They’re Ended by a Cop” because nobody in the “black community” pays the least little bit of attention to thousands of blacks murdered routinely by other blacks.
The politicians, smelling a cause, are busy handcuffing their cops. In NYC, the “stop and frisk” policy that Rudy Guilanni put in place two decades ago that made NYC the safest big city in the world are gone. Cops in Baltimore have pretty much stopped policing some neighborhoods because they are surrounded by mobs if they make a stop. It’s pretty much the same in every city.
In Baltimore, the most pressing question every morning is how many people were shot the previous night. Gun violence is up more than 60% compared with this time last year, according to Baltimore police, with 32 shootings over Memorial Day weekend. May has been the most violent month the city has seen in 15 years.
In Milwaukee, homicides were up 180% by May 17 over the same period the previous year. Through April, shootings in St. Louis were up 39%, robberies 43%, and homicides 25%. “Crime is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” said St. Louis Alderman Joe Vacarro at a May 7 City Hall hearing.
Murders in Atlanta were up 32% as of mid-May. Shootings in Chicago had increased 24% and homicides 17%. Shootings and other violent felonies in Los Angeles had spiked by 25%; in New York, murder was up nearly 13%, and gun violence 7%.
Those are citywide stats, but they actually mask the problem.
Shooting incidents are up 500% in an East Harlem precinct compared with last year; in a South Central Los Angeles police division, shooting victims are up 100%.
The real victims as a result of politicians actions with respect to their police are those who live in minority neighborhoods. Crime isn’t up proportionally, it’s skyrocketing in the black community and stable elsewhere. How bad is it?
“There are no real consequences for committing property crimes anymore,” Los Angeles Police Lt. Armando Munoz told Downtown News earlier this month, “and the criminals know this.” The Milwaukee district attorney, John Chisholm, is diverting many property and drug criminals to rehabilitation programs to reduce the number of blacks in Wisconsin prisons; critics see the rise in Milwaukee crime as one result.
The black community is about to re-learn a hard lesson. The problem isn’t racist cops, it’s black culture. If you factor out illigitimacy – take the kids being raised by a “single parent” out of the equation, black crime rates are the same as white crime rates.
70% of black children are born out of wedlock. “Families” pass for the example of a Baltimore woman who was complaining about police in her neighborhood. She is 26 and has seven children. The article didn’t say she was married, or even in a relationship, and didn’t note how many sperm donors contributed to her brood.
We’re on a cultural collision. Black culture that celebrates “single moms” and thugs like Michael Brown combined with a political culture that tries to pin the problems in the black commnity on “racism” will result in a blood bath in that very community.
