The Situation Room

The White House published this photo this afternoon, showing President Obama, Vice President Biden, SecState Hillary Clinton, SecDef Robert Gates and others crowded around a table in the White House Situation Room, watching a live video feed of last night’s raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan.

The photo reminded me of this recent quote from the President:

The Oval Office, I always thought I was going to have really cool phones
and stuff.  I’m like, c’mon guys, I’m the president of the United States. Where’s the fancy buttons and stuff and the big screen comes up? It doesn’t happen.

I also noticed that James Rebhorn, John Spencer, E. G. Marshall, Kevin McCarthy, William Devane, Robert Loggia, and others who have nimbly guided our nation through numerous fictional periods of crisis over the years were missing from the photo.

Even the President can’t always have everything, I guess.
