The latest snowstorm now burying South Carolina, Georgia and the Florida Panhandle under several inches of global warming has left us with a remarkable anomoly – snow is on the ground in at least some parts of all fifty states. After dumping over a foot in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, the latest in a series of winter systems to affect the deep south is expected to leave a wide swath of snow from the Florida Gulf Coast to the palm-laced beaches of Hilton Head, SC.
The extreme cold has not been limited to the United States. Much of Europe has likewise suffered through a particularly brutal winter. Britain faces possible gas shortages as pipelines from Norway have frozen and disrupted supply. Heavy snow has fallen as far south as southern Italy.
