Ted Rall, voice of reason?

Voice of reason? Of course not. He’s still a blithering idiot. But now that he’s blithering over Obama we can all sit back and enjoy some hot blue-on-blue action:

We expected broken promises. But the gap between the soaring expectations that accompanied Barack Obama’s inauguration and his wretched performance is the broadest such chasm in recent historical memory. This guy makes Bill Clinton look like a paragon of integrity and follow-through.

From health care to torture to the economy to war, Obama has reneged on pledges real and implied. So timid and so owned is he that he trembles in fear of offending, of all things, the government of Turkey. Obama has officially reneged on his campaign promise to acknowledge the Armenian genocide. When a president doesn’t have the nerve to annoy the Turks, why does he bother to show up for work in the morning?

Obama is useless. Worse than that, he’s dangerous. Which is why, if he has any patriotism left after the thousands of meetings he has sat through with corporate contributors, blood-sucking lobbyists and corrupt politicians, he ought to step down now — before he drags us further into the abyss.Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for Obama stepping down before he drags us further into the abyss. When the folks at Pravda – f’ing Pravda for God’s sake – lament, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people, we all start to pine for the good old days of fiscal sanity under W. Obama’s going to ruin us all and saddle our children with an 80% marginal tax rate. But that’s not why half-cocked Teddy is steamed:

I refer here to Obama’s plan for “preventive detentions.” If a cop or other government official thinks you might want to commit a crime someday, you could be held in “prolonged detention.” Reports in U.S. state-controlled media imply that Obama’s shocking new policy would only apply to Islamic terrorists (or, in this case, wannabe Islamic terrorists, and also kinda-sorta-maybe-thinking-about-terrorism dudes). As if that made it OK.

In practice, Obama wants to let government goons snatch you, me and anyone else they deem annoying off the street.

Preventive detention is the classic defining characteristic of a military dictatorship. Because dictatorial regimes rely on fear rather than consensus, their priority is self-preservation rather than improving their people’s lives. They worry obsessively over the one thing they can’t control, what George Orwell called “thoughtcrime” — contempt for rulers that might someday translate to direct action.Teabaggers beware! No, of course not. He’s referring to detainees rolled up in our nascent Steadfast Endeavor to Unflinchingly Minimize the Risk from Man-Made Disasters formerly known as the War on Terror. In Rall-y World, someone captured in Afghanistan or Iraq and suspected of terrorist activity deserves the same legal treatment as someone accused of a crime in the United States. The living embodiment of a 9/10 mentality and glorious reminder of just how unserious the far left is when it comes to protecting the US against future terrorist attacks man-made disasters.

Leaving aside the fact we’re still light years away from liberal icon FDR’s domestic internment camps and arrests of those who protested the war in Europe (Germany had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor…sound familiar?), prisoners of war have always been subjected to indefinite detainment without a trial. Then add in that these suspected terrorists architects of man-made disaster we are capturing don’t even qualify for the Geneva Conventions by fighting out of uniform and indefinite detainment is too good for them. They’re eligible to be hauled before a military tribunal where they’re captured and summarily shot when found guilty. Instead, we detain them until we are sure they are safe to release. A pretty good bargain for the suspected jihadi if you ask me.

Obama is cute. He is charming. But there is something rotten inside him. Unlike the Republicans who backed George W. Bush, I won’t follow a terrible leader just because I voted for him. Obama has revealed himself. He is a monster, and he should remove himself from power.

Monster is a strong word. I would have gone with “naive communist dunderpate”. But it’s nice to see that Ted Rall is an equal opportunity _ucktard.
