“Obama surging to lead,” said the pre-election media polls and headlines. “Dead heat,” declared a few other national media sources.
On the GOP side, there were several polls alleging not only a close race but Romney actually beating McCain. “Race too close to call,” blared today’s headlines — even as the voting precincts closed.
Then the actual votes got tallied:
