He has come out swinging, blaming the Republicans for what he said about our troops in Iraq:
“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.
I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.
Don’t even attempt to blame the GOP for this one, Senator Kerry. You are the one who was captured on video making your offensive statements about our troops in Iraq. Be a man, sir, and accept responsibility for what you said.
However, it isn’t just your comments that are so repugnant. Your statement above is also unbelievable. Not only did you first insult our brave troops in Iraq, but after you were caught on video saying such extraordinary words, you then used the US military again by hiding behind it in order to deflect the criticism that is rightfully coming down on you like a ton of bricks.
Any presidential aspirations you may have had are over, Senator Kerry. Your hateful words about our military men and women will haunt you for the rest of your political career, if not the rest of your life.

Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education. Americans from all backgrounds, well off and less fortunate, with high school diplomas and graduate degrees, take seriously their duty to our country, and risk their lives today to defend the rest of us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
They all deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service. The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq, is an insult to every soldier serving in combat, and should deeply offend any American with an ounce of appreciation for what they suffer and risk so that the rest of us can sleep more comfortably at night. Without them, we wouldn’t live in a country where people securely possess all their God-given rights, including the right to express insensitive, ill-considered and uninformed remarks.

Actually, I do think he was aiming his remarks at Bush.
What he was saying was Bush is stoopid. Gee, that’s really original. Does the Left ever get tired of that one? What he forgets is that Bush had better grades than he did in college.
So either a. he was insulting our troops, and if that’s the case he should resign from office.
or b. he was making a ham-handed attempt to insult Bush with the same old leftie talking point. If that’s true, then he just insulted himself since he had worse academic performance than Bush.

You mean like by not sending enough troops over there to support the ones doing the fighting? Or like not providing them with appropriate body armor or other equipment? Or by wearing them out by endlessly extending their tours of duty? Or by telling them that they’ll be returning home to reduced benefits? Like that?
But regardless, your point is flawed and disingenuous. Were I to list all of the legitimate criticisms of our Iraq policy, you would just spin each one into one of your categories.

This is pretty elemental. I asked you in my previous post what that means, and you dodged it, although you appear to circumscribe it to distate for the leadership of the military (as if the Dems. were still on the side of the “soldier”), but that is not what is said.
What is said, is that Dem Journos are “anti-military.” I’d say hate is not too strong a term, if not distate for all the military, not just the Pentagon.
Why else the slanted coverage, and virtually nothing about our courageous soldiers stories in harm’s way.

Note what the AP says in a report about this incident: “Unsubstantiated allegations about Kerry’s Vietnam War heroism from a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth figured prominently in the 2004 Kerry-Bush race.”
If I remember correctly, Kerry did retract his claim that he was in Cambodia on Christmas Eve. That sounds pretty substantiated to me.

Also, “bias” can indicate everything from hate to mere displeasure with. Given the vitriol from the Left, as it has existed since Vietnam when you guys were spitting in soldier’s faces, I would take the meaning of “bias” to mean a severe dislike or hate.
For instance, Hugh, you often hear that one is “biased” against blacks, jews, muslims, what have you. In this context, is it not “hate” that the writer intends to connote?
