Charles Johnson et al have a few more dots to play with.
From a story ostensibly trying to clear her…
Secrets of the CIA
A former colleague says the fired Mary McCarthy ‘categorically denies’ being the source of the leak on agency renditions.
April 24, 2006 – A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, “categorically denies being the source of the leak,” one of McCarthy’s friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism [with Richard Clarke? -ED-] for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beer’s role as the Clinton NSC’s top intelligence expert. …
After being told by agency interrogators that she may have been deceptive on one quesiton during a polygraph, McCarthy did acknowledge that she had failed to report contacts with Washington Post reporter Dana Priest and at least one other reporter, said a source familiar with her account who asked not to be identified because of legal sensitivities. McCarthy has known Priest for some time, the source said.
I bet she has.
The worth of the rest of the story is up for debate… But still, it seems odd the same circle of people keep coming down on the same side in this story.
I’m not sure this article does her any good.
It must be part of a vast leftwing conspiracy.
haha
Really one answer: let the law take its course. If the DoJ has sufficient reason to believe that McCarthy has violated the law, then the investigation should be assigned to a federal prosecutor, sent to a grand jury, etc, etc.
You Wizbang morons
No one addresses the fact that what she ratted out was secret prisons. Obviously you all approve. Welcome to Wizbang AmeriKa.
I appreciate the open forum that Wizbang presents. Yea, there are alot of wacked left-leaning posters here, but the majority of them can be ignored, or actually provide a valuble point or two.
But come on, nimrods like mak44 pring nothing but forum clutter. It’s time to start pruning the weeds here.
We’re not addressing it because it doesn’t matter.
If you have classified information about illegal activities, it’s still not legal to go to the press with it.
The FBI, yes. The Senate and House intelligence oversight committees, yes. Any one of the many government departments and official avenues whose sole purpose is catching government employees behaving badly and shoving ’em in the pokey, yes.
Highly classified material in the public news, hell no.
Not to mention that intensive investigation by Euroepan intelligence agencies haven’t been able to find any proof that said secret prisons ever existed in Europe in the first place, which would strongly hint that McCarthy got caught out by a disinformation trap. Which is good tradecraft on the part of those who caught her.
Welcome to the spy biz.

You are pathetic. Follow the channels-even if it’s illegal?
The problem is that you right wingnuts don’t give a crap about human rights.
AND Bchoinski
I still can’t get a reasoned reply to why secret prisons are an desirable thing that should be kept classified from the American people. There is no secret here except to the people of this country who naively believe that their shit doesn’t stink. The rest of the world knows it does.
And who on this site can put the lie to what Drumheller exposed on 60 Minutes? Or is he just another one of the minions of CIA libs?
mak44 Let me see what network is 60 minutes? fake but accurate mean any thing to your simple mind.
To your last point ,yes
you lefties dont care about the unborn so you have no point to start with in the first place.
If there were secret prisons? they are most certainly because of people like you that they have to function this way.
if the rest of the world thinks our shit stinks, than why are they constantly breaking through our borders to get in here?
jainphx
You pitiful Bush bedpan! If you think ad hominem attacks on CBS can disniss the truth behind what an ex-CIA officer had to say about cherry-picked intelligence (read Bush/Cheney LIES) then I am sure your pan is indeed full. You’re drowning.
Let’s have a reasonable counterpoint, if you have one. But then, Reason & Republicans is oxymoronic.
Let’s have a reasonable counterpoint, if you have one.
You first.
oh and one more i forgot ! if you took a dump this morning, than how cant you be braindead tonight?
To all the fools here, when you don’t know, say you don’t know, don’t act like you actually know.
Other than being an american, I have a passport of a different country across the attlantic. the US has been building a secret prison overthere in the capital suburb for the last few months. Even kids know that overthere. Of course the local government is denying it but try to convince the locals who see american diplomats SUVs monitoring the project day and night that ain’t the case. This forum is a joke.
John Goodman, mak44,
If this forum is a joke, and makes you sick, then why come here, why read this? Do you enjoy being so miserable? It would seem so…
Goodman : It is since You commented.
Mak44 , who are you trying to kid ? Ask Paula Jones and many others about their right being violated by prick slick willie. Democrats are walking talking frauds , Race baiters and emoition predators. When democrats speak parents should cover their childrens ears. You people have zero credibility. If a criminal democrat was president these imbeciles posting here and the liberal media would not even dare mention let alone investigate their leaders incompetance or crimes. The fact that President Bush has not commited a single crime drives the loser dems further into insanity. The thought of a “BLACK WOMAN” Condi Rice in such a high position of power has the Dems tearing out their hair by the handfull. Democrats are professional liars and that’s about their only accomplishment.

You are pathetic. Follow the channels-even if it’s illegal?
That’s right, you work within the system first, from the IG to the FBI, to the Senate Intelligence committee. That is what the security oath entails. If you don’t like it, you get out of the CIA.
The problem is that you right wingnuts don’t give a crap about human rights.
Spurrious opinion mixed with ad hominum. I don’t really personally care about the human rights of sub-human killers who semtex themselves and explode their worthless bodies all over men, women and children in restaurants, buses, etc.
AND Bchoinski
I still can’t get a reasoned reply to why secret prisons are an desirable thing that should be kept classified from the American people.
They aren’t classified to keep them from the American people, you jackass, they are classified to prevent the ENEMY from knowing the prison’s locations. The Americans don’t really care where Al-Qaeda is being locked up, just as long as they ARE. The release of this information would allow said scumbag organization to target the prisons in order to a)release the detainee to allow them to continue to wreak havoc, or b)to kill said detainees in order to deny us info-gathering.
Then again, I supposed you would have approved of the Government telling the American people we were working on an atom bomb in order to cut short the Pacific Theatre war…
Your level of obtuseness astounds me. You really are either a total idiot, or a simple provocateur…gee, like that’s really original.
And who on this site can put the lie to what Drumheller exposed on 60 Minutes? Or is he just another one of the minions of CIA libs?
What is your hard-on regarding Drumheller? What relevance does it have to THIS case?
We see you are attempting to deflect the thrust of this thread.
John “Dan Conner” Goodman, ejaculates the following:
“To all the fools here,”
(looks over at mak, with a smirk)
when you don’t know, say you don’t know, don’t act like you actually know.
This fragment is just screaming for a conjunction and an adjunct clause.
Other than being an american, I have a passport of a different country across the attlantic.
You want a cookie? I have a dual passport too, what’s yer point?

Then you have no qualms telling us exactly which suburb of what city in what country this prison is in. After all, EVERYBODY knows, don’t they? Why so coy, Johnny boy?
Why was this portion of the linked article left out of Paul’s post?
“McCarthy’s lawyer, Ty Cobb, told NEWSWEEK this afternooon that contrary to public statements by the CIA late last week, McCarthy never confessed to agency interrogators that she had divulged classified information and “didn’t even have access to the information” in The Washington Post story in question.”
It appears that Wizbang isn’t interested in the truth — and is instead only interested in perpetuating the myths the Republicans try to use to keep control of this country…
As we all know, the citizens of this country have wised up to Bish and his cronie crooks. Tsk tsk… it’s only a matter of time before the crooks are run out of Washington on a rail.
THE WORST PRESIDENT we’ve ever had will see to it that Repubicans are out of power for the next 20 years.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Lee:
So, her lawyer claims she didn’t say anything, and the CIA says she did. So, we must look to further information. The article goes on to note that she had known Priest for sometime, and had failed to mention all her contacts with Priest. Priest was the person to expose the “secret prison” story, based on information leaked from the CIA. Even a five year old child can follow this to at least a circumstantial hypothesis.
Count on McCarthy, Priest, and Beers being hauled in front of a grand jury.
As I recall from the Libby case, there were no links to Rove being involved either, yet the left was willing to believe on far less evidence that Rove was behind the whole thing. One could say “sauce for the goose”, but…
LEE No ,she did,nt divulge CLASSIFIED INFO ? just what the hell do you think her lawyer is going to say! My clinton appointed client is guilty of endangering the nations security, and we confess? wise up
“You are pathetic. Follow the channels-even if it’s illegal?”
Yes, God forbid that anyone, upon discovering something that could possibly be illegal, should go to the FBI before they went to the newspapers.
You know common sense is lost, We have to listen and read utter paplum from the likes of mak44. He knows nothing but say’s alot. talk about cherry picking, tell me,this Dhimmywhit you refer to do you know anything about him,or do you just like his bush bashing. Please inlighten us with his resume if you know.
To Dan Conner
A question was posed to you ? one which you cannot answer? what country is the secret prison being built in ?what capitol parish?what suburb hmmmn? c,mon Dan dont you want to rise to the lofty status of whistleblower? if Bush is so rotten you can end it all! c,mon Dan be a Man.
Hey Lee, Wasn’t this what you meant? Cause it’s reality bub.
THE WORST PRESIDENT we’ve ever had will see to it that Democrats are out of power for the next 20 years.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
For those whose conscience is shocked at the idea of clandestine secret prisons, get real fools. As for me, I sure hope they do exist. I want the USA intelligence agencies to develop new and exciting ways to “terrorize the terrorists”, as classic due process should not apply to headchoppers and IED makers.
And what of the shadowy story of the capture and interrogation of Abu Zubaydah found in Chapter 19 of Posner’s book “Why America Slept”. If that account is true, I admire US intelligence for using such clever subtrefuge to outsmart evil murdering thugs. (even if it involved a “secret prison”… Oooga-Boooga)
Virgo, I’ve already asked this question…he has yet to reply with concrete information. And, I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.
Virgo, you silly pud. The prisons are SECRET. We don’t know where they are becuse –and here’s a big clue here — they’re SECRET, you dumbshit.
Here’s another way secrets work. Say your hairy wife has an affair with your hog and doesn’t tell you about it. Just because you are either too ugly or too dumb to know doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen.
For Chrissakes, you’re one seriously ignorant redneck, dude. Do you wake up and drink your own piss every morning? You should have your penis snipped and save humanity from breeding any more people as idiotic as you.
Secret Prison:
Virgo is talking to John “Dan Conner” Goodman about John’s supposed knowledge about a secret prison that “everybody” knows about, “even the children”…yet he does not name the location. If everybody knows about it, surely a five-second google can confirm his statement.
So, do try to keep up. Ta.
secret prison my a$$, your mak44. Only filth comes from your mouth. My only question to you is,Do you eat with that mouth without gargeling. What a pig you are.If you had half a brain it would be out looking for the other half.
The author of this post intentionally skipped over this paragraph when quoting the Newsweek article – why?
“McCarthy’s lawyer, Ty Cobb, told NEWSWEEK this afternooon that contrary to public statements by the CIA late last week, McCarthy never confessed to agency interrogators that she had divulged classified information and “didn’t even have access to the information” in The Washington Post story in question.”
Pot, Kettle, MSM, Wizbang.
“The problem is that you right wingnuts don’t give a crap about human rights.”
This comes from the side that wanted to keep
Saddam Hussein in power.
I’ve got two words for you, mak44:
MASS GRAVES.

Because you simple minded twit, laywers lie.
Every layew says thier client is innocent. You expect me to accept that as some sort of proof?
Idiot.
LEE
I answered this yesterday, Lawyers are on the side of their clients for $$ they take their side regardless of guilt or innocence! this proves No-Thing.
Virgo, James, you could have googled the story yourself, but why do it, you’re already braindead. there you go little puppies, follow the link http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-2036185,00.html
But wait I paid the times to write this, didn’t I?!
Trying to inform the likes of Virgo and James is a WASTE..

Go fix Rosanne another triple decker dagwood sandwich and see if You can harpoon the Whale
I’m with Joe Six Pack. As long as our enemies want to see us enslaved, Muslim or dead, I am 100 per cent in favor of “secret prisons”. All these liberals are yapping about human rights. I say you have to be human first. That may seem harsh but I think about those other “secret prisons” these fanatics kept their hostages in… just before they beheaded them.
The problem is the CIA has been taken over by a large
percentage of career bureacrats. These are not the risk-taking operatives that one would reasonably think the CIA have traditionally made up its rank and file. Even the washington post admits most are analysts with a strong focus on job security. Most probably have no strong support for the CIA’s mission and would probably be more comfortable in a “peace envoy” role with the State Department. This leads to the focal point. The CIA’s culture has drastically changed since Clinton’s first term to a point that many realize the best thing you can do for the country’s national security is to marginalize it, and hopefully force the career bureacrats out (i.e., reduction in force, etc.). I am write this as an independent with no ties to either political party.
