John Bolton has slammed the UN over the funds sent to Palestianians for anti-Israel propaganda:
New York Sun – Mr. Bolton said yesterday that the UNDP had failed to explain why it funneled money to the Palestinian Authority to back the production of banners, bumper stickers, mugs, and T-shirts bearing the provocative slogan as well as UNDP logos.
Responding to angry reactions from Jewish and Israeli leaders, UNDP officials yesterday said financial support from the agency was intended to help the Palestinian Authority communicate with Palestinian Arabs during Israel’s evacuation of Jewish settlers from Gaza.
In a letter to the American Jewish Congress, which had decried the funding of the propaganda materials, a UNDP administrator, Kemal Dervis, said it was “not at all acceptable” that the agency’s logo was placed on the propaganda.
“We cannot be involved in political messaging,” Mr. Dervis wrote. The UNDP manages nearly $4 billion in donor resources annually, operating in 166 countries.
The response from the UNDP was not sufficient, Mr. Bolton said yesterday. “Funding this kind of activity is inappropriate and unacceptable. We plan to raise the issue with UNDP and with others,” he said in a statement to The New York Sun. In effect, Mr. Bolton expressed to the UNDP that the most serious problem for his office was not the logo, but the fact that the agency supported that message with its checkbook.
Bolton is like a breath of fresh air.
By Rob Port of Say Anything.
Give ’em hell, John! Hold those slimy lizard feet to the fire!
But Mr. Bolton, it’s Israel! Duh!
I like a guy who will speak his mind and won’t play the pseudoPC game the UN plays with Israel. Good game John!
I wonder if Kofi is already starting to have nightmares where he is bedeviled by a Cheshire Cat that fades away leaving only a giant, bushy mustache.
Hmm. Thanks for that, Rob “Say Anything That Comes Into My Head That Is anti-Palestinian”. But it seems the American Jewish Congress is quite happy with Kemal Dervis’ apology.
As for the New York Sun’s article, I read the rest of it. It includes that favorite phrase of Rob “Say Anything As Long As It Shows Hatred For Arabs” — “disputed territory”. In fact, it goes further: “Israeli officials, who argue that the West Bank is disputed territory under international law…”
Let’s take things slowly, shall we? The United States was one of the countries that established the partition of Israel/Palestine into two states. In 1967, Israel invaded the Palestinian territories and occupied them. That was illegal. It is still illegal. At least half the population of Israel recognizes that fact, but Rob “I hate rug-heads” and his government don’t.
Saddam Hussein disputes the fact that he committed crimes against humanity. Japanese extremists dispute the fact that they committed unspeakable atrocities throughout East Asia. Neo-Nazis dispute the fact that millions of Jews were gassed. On a more mundane level, petty criminals like shoplifters frequently dispute the fact that they committed a crime. Technically, that makes claims of a crime having been committed…”disputed”. It doesn’t make them right.
The whole of Gaza and the whole of the West Bank belong, legally, to the Palestinians. East Jerusalem should be the only sticking point here -but legally, it belongs to the Palestinians.
The Palestinians have every right to say “Today Gaza, Tomorrow the West Bank” – the West Bank legally belongs to them. But using UN funds to do so is a misuse of those funds. The UNDP has stated that fact and the American Jewish Congress has thanked it. But for John “I Hate The UN And Will Do Everything In My Power To Destroy It” Bolton and his rabid followers, that’s not enough.
Oh…I nearly deleted the bit above about Nazi holocaust deniers, because it’s inevitable that at least one of lunatics here will say I’m calling Israel/Sharon/Rob/Them/Whichever Nazis. But I decided to leave it, because if that’s what you think…
John Bolton to the rescue
John Bolton to the rescue
John Bolton to the rescue
Go, John Bolton
Go, John Bolton
(I’d do the whole song, but I can’t find a rhyme for “Condi”…)
And can Bolton do a damn thing about it? No. His words are wasted breath. 🙁
At least it is a start. He is not up there kissing ass and standing by while these rejects from the “Stars Wars” bar scene steal U.N. funds.
Cat, it sounds like you are in dire need of a history lesson. Unless of course you know the information I am going to tell you. If so you are anti-Semitic.
You are sadly mistaken if you think that Israel invaded the Palestinian territories and occupied them.
In 1967 Israel was attacked and in self defense won those territories. It is disputed land which is different than occupied land. Disputed land means that the decision to whom it belongs is reliant on a peace process. The settlements were not illegal. Israel is conceding the Gaza strip. The Palestinians were to do several things as for this peace process. Namely stop the terrorism, which they have not done.
Do some reading on this. Here is one site, but there are many others. http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_1967to1991_territories_occupied_or_not.php
To get back to the actual topic of the post, Rob was talking about the UN financing Palestinian propaganda so I’m not sure why you didn’t stay on topic. It looks more like you were only interested in attacking Rob.
The UN as an institution has been very anti-Semitic, and it is not appropriate for them to give the Palestinians money (of which a good share is our money) so they can gloat and declare victory because the Israeli’s are leaving Gaza. And their leaders are declaring victory, and have said that it’s just a start; next it will be other settlements, then Jerusalem, and they aren’t stopping there. The next step, in their own words, is to “drive the Israeli’s into the sea (i.e. kill them). There is a reason that Israel is not on any of their maps.
It’s time that we have an ambassador in the UN that will stand up for our interests and the interests of our allies when necessary. So far it seems that John Bolton was a good choice.
Cat,
When you say that Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem belong to the Palestinians, and the Israeli’s are there illegally you are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I can’t emphasize that enough
I think it is good before starting a discussion on Palestine and Palestinians that you establish a clear definition of both. Most people I talk to have no idea who or where these are.
don’t confuse self policing with full independent investigation.
May you face GOD eye to eye for what you modern day republicans have done to this country.
By true definition of the word, you are modern day fascists.
…..and “Wizbang” couldn’t have been more aptly used!
RE: judgement day cometh’s post (August 20, 2005 11:51 AM)
By true definition of the word, you are modern day fascists.
Godwin lite! Anyone making odds on a full-on declaration?
No No Mr. AnonymousDrivel. At no time was a comparison made to “Nazis” or “Hitler”. Fascism is the word. Research it, understand it because you and the modern day republican party are it and live it.
To quote Mussolini, “”Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power”.
You and the modern day republican party are the enemies of democracy. You are the false patriots. You are the false prophets.
May GOD lend his will to help save our country from what your draft dodging, treasonist, global corporatist leaders have planned for our once great country!
RE: judgement day cometh’s post (August 20, 2005 01:20 PM)
No No Mr. AnonymousDrivel. At no time was a comparison made to “Nazis” or “Hitler”. Fascism is the word. Research it, understand it because you and the modern day republican party are it and live it.
You’ll note that I wrote “Godwin lite” and was asking for predictions for the next step (to Nazism). Invariably, when someone addresses the Republicans and invokes “modern day fascists”, we are but a short hop, skip, or jump to the full violation. You should take care how you sling the term around seeing as you know not my economics and how I may or may not fuse them with politics. Speaking out of ignorance only exposes your own.
May GOD lend his will to help save our country from what your draft dodging, treasonist, global corporatist leaders have planned for our once great country!
Yes. We may yet recover from Mr. Clinton’s shortcomings. Hopefully, your GOD won’t need to intervene.
AnonymousDrivel, I see your call, and raise you an “ABUSE…HORROR…ABU GHRAIB!!!”
While their queen (Clinton) hid behind effete useless attacks (tomahawks and aerial bombardment, but not followed up by men on the ground) and was too busy dipping his cigar in Monica’s twat to know what was going on in the world, they forget that their arch-arch-arch-nemesis (Lt. Col. Oliver North) warned the Senate back in 1987 (!) that the man he feared most was Osama Bin Laden.
Simply put, the West has a paradigm problem, and doesn’t learn from history. The Caliphate wanks itself each night to reminiscing in military glories of centuries past, and everything it does is steeped in history.
The first time the US was caught off guard, the Twin Towers were bombed, but rebuilt.
The second time the US was caught off guard, the Twin Towers were destroyed.
The third time the US gets caught off guard, it won’t just be a few buildings and a couple planes that get destroyed, but rather, several square miles of a major city. If that city is NY or DC, we will be long in picking up the pieces.
-Wanderlust
p.s.: funny how judgementdaywanker has a bad case of transference going…”draft dodger” was BillyBob Clinton, and Jawn F’n Kerry dodged service by getting purple hearts for scratches. By comparison, W flew a difficult plane as a volunteer (F-102), and Cheney was SECDEF for four years under Bush 41.
Okkk..Back to regular proramming…
It is refreshing to see someone in the UN who is actually looking out for our interests instead of towing the line.
This is why Bush chose Bolton and this is why he was right.
RE: Wanderlust’s post (August 20, 2005 03:02 PM)
Sorry, Wanderlust. I fold. Your three of a kind beats my pair. Incidentally, I wasn’t aware of North’s warnings from ’87. That’s some interesting history. I’ve always been intrigued by Mansoor Ijaz’s reports on the Clinton administration’s hesitancy (read failing) to grab BinLaden during the Sudan years. It seems like more pieces of that policy puzzle are coming into play and I don’t think it assembles a very complimentary picture of Clinton’s security concerns.
I think you’re absolutely right about our short attention span compared to that of the ancient civilizations. Yes, we think short-term to our own detriment in some regards. Dissociation of national defense, or our naivete after an engagement, seems to supercede once immediate threats have been neutralized. Hopefully we will continue with these neutralizations that allow us to become complacent; but one day that complacency is going to bite us in the tuckus. As you say, a major city or two will get hit if we don’t remain vigilant.
About the draft-dodging, yes, that one was too easy. Sometimes it feels like T-ball. Batter up!
RE: Rightwingsparkle’s post (August 20, 2005 03:15 PM)
Sorry about the diversion… couldn’t be helped.
Agreed about your post. Bolton is the right man for the job. In view of the U.N.’s scandals and utter corruption, I don’t see how one could defend any other personality type to serve as the American ambassador.
“You’ll note that I wrote “Godwin lite” and was asking for predictions for the next step (to Nazism).”
Mr.AnonymousDrivel, There you go jumping the gun again. Nazis excercised their own “version” of fascism. It was a grotesque, rascist and extreme ideolgy that has never been practiced since.
Fascist regimes on the other hand have been numerous, with focus central on rallying the nations people through fear under the guise of protection.
Please do yourself a favor and research the subject a little further.
BTW, there was no reason at all to bring president Clinton into this as I never mentioned the man.
Why is it the extreme-right that have taken over the republican party always find the need to blame Clinton when things go wrong?
The right can never own up to responsibilty. Straw-men are in constant use do to lack of inner strength.
May GOD guide you on a path of better understanding.
Fascist regimes on the other hand have been numerous, with focus central on rallying the nations people through fear under the guise of protection.
North Korea, Turkmenistan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Chavez’s Venezuela, Cuba, Libya, Belarus, …
The common thread of those nations: no free elections, no freedom to speak your mind.
“p.s.: funny how judgementdaywanker has a bad case of transference going…”draft dodger” was BillyBob Clinton, and Jawn F’n Kerry dodged service by getting purple hearts for scratches.”
Like I mentioned above, “false patriots”. The sickening Rovian ideology of the modern republican party.
Only extremists with a “conquer at all cost” menatlity could ever compare a man who volunteered to serve during war time to a man who dodged out of war through powerful connections while beating his chest state side for said war. It’s kind of reflective of your party today though isn’t it.
Here we have short falls in all of our armed services yet all of the 18 to 40 year old republicans beating their chest for war refuse to enlist for the cause they so love. Why is this?….”false patriots”.
…off the top of my head, draft dodging chickenhawks…. G.W. Bush, Rove, Bolton, DeLay, Limbaugh, T. Nugent, Cheney, the list goes on and on and the funny thing is they are in fact the leaders of your party. Birds of a feather flock together.
There is a wonderful organization started to help deprogram this cowardly mentality. I suggest you look further into it and pass it along to your friends.

In Bush’s Bizarro World up is down, round is square and cowards are fearless patriots.
May Jesus stand with our country and steer these poor programmed nieghbors of ours to the true light of GOD once again!

The 14 Defining Characteristics Of Fascism
Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism – Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights – Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause – The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military – Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism – The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media – Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security – Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined – Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed
to the government’s policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected – The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed – Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts – Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment – Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption – Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections – Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
How sad, you really need to brush up on your history nieghbor. GOD Bless
Which one named is not an authoritarian government?
Since we have a government controlled by the people (in theory), and an industrial sector of primarily publicly held corporations how could we not be a fascist state according to your definition?
Regardless of which political party is in power the same people are going to be controlling the government and industry.
So Dr. Britt decided what governments were fascist, then studied them to determine what made them fascist? Good scientific methodology there, I can see why you think Intelligent Design is so laughable.
Thanks for the link, too, those yellow elephant guys are real cards.
“Since we have a government controlled by the people (in theory),”….we “HAD” a goverment controlled by the people. Now we have goverment increasingly controlling the people to further their end game.
Take a look at where we have come. We sit back and watch Bush beating his chest for war under the guise of protecting the homefront but he along with corporate globalists refuse to do anything to protect our own borders.
For the love of GOD if a Mexican field hand can cross the border doesn’t logic dictate that any terrosist group wishing to enter our land could do so in a heartbeat?
Why is this happening, because the cheap labor that the Wal Marts of the world save in labor costs is huge. This is only one example to help your thinking on a new path.
We work our butts off to have food on the table and a roof over our head. Now we are forced to pay $2.50 per gallon of regular gas. The oil companies are make historic record profits yet Bush and the republican majority just passsed a so called energy bill that will hand these pigs billions in tax breaks and give-aways, all from the sweat of our brow.
This isn’t about party affiliation this is about we the average hard working people of this country slowly losing our voice to a very few greedy pigs that now control most of the worlds assets.
GOD Bless
“So Dr. Britt decided what governments were fascist,”…No Moe, history has.
” Good scientific methodology there, I can see why you think Intelligent Design is so laughable.”…Who mentioned Intelligent Design?
Can’t you see how you repeat nonstop talking points from the echo-chamber of the republican party? Understand that all of us in this country have much more in common with one another then not.
Sadly, the Rove’s of the world deliberatley chose to erect straw-men to divide us. Without a perceived enemy the Rove’s of the world would quickly die out.
This is a typical pattern through-out history of totalitarian regimes. Regonize it for what it is. Follow the word of GOD and LOVE thy nieghbor. Cast aside the “false prophets”. Their faith will be in GOD’s hands.
“Which one named is not an authoritarian government?” Joe
The topic I was speaking of was fascism. Perhaps you can express yourself more clearly next time.
GOD Bless
judgement day cometh-And this has to do with Bolton exactly how?
LLL Moonbats are so predictable. When they have nothing of substance to say about something out comes the FASIST word. The left has done nothing more than looked at the “supposed” definition of fascism and then over exaggerate those characteristics they “think“fits conservatives. It doesn’t matter if it is true or not. If liberals SAY it is true, then it is.
They can’t ever see and accept that someone else has a different opinion, and it’s just that-a different belief or opinion. Rather LLL’s have to name call and demonize. But of course liberals believe that they are so vastly superior, and are so much more intelligent that they can’t conceive that they might be/probably are wrong on at least some issues. And that is why they have to continually claim that the elections were stolen contrary to the evidence. They just can’t accept that they have been in the minority.
But keep it up. Liberals marginalize themselves more and more every day.
And by the way judgment is spelled- JUDGMENT -not judgement.
The case against judgement day cometh:
1. Serious conspiratorial delusions
2. Paranoia
3. Invoking God as a means of projecting authority and righteousness
4. Failure to take his meds
5. His pyschotherapist is on a month-long vacation.
“LLL Moonbats are so predictable. When they have nothing of substance to say about something out comes the FASIST word.”
Actually, I think anyone looking back on my posts would say they were very substantive.
BTW, it’s FASCIST not FASIST.
Please start looking outside of the programmed box you live in. The world of ideas, opinions and history is vast.
GOD Bless.

I’m not in a “programmed box” and every day I explore and read about The world of ideas, opinions and history
This is just another variation of the meme “If those dumb Republicans would just open their eyes, they would agree with us and we would be in the majority again.” WELL I CAN ASSURE YOU WE HAVE OUR EYES WIDE OPEN, AND WE AREN’T VOTING FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Believe it or not, we use our intelligence to make informed, sound decisions, even if they are decisions YOU don’t agree with.
And, Oh yea, like I’m really going to cross the isle and vote for a party that doesn’t respect my beliefs and tells me I’m dumb.
“This is just another variation of the meme “If those dumb Republicans would just open their eyes”…..that is absolutley NOT what I meant.
Again, in your open ignorance you show your lack of subject.
BTW, I’m not a Democrat , although I have voted for many Democrats. I have also voted for republicans and Independents as well.
I’m here to express my opinions nothing more. Recruiting people for any party is the last thing on my mind. You speak as a staunch republican I except you as a staunch republican.
With the title of being a staunch and proud republican comes with the fact you are part of the modern day fascist movement. History doesn’t lie!
OK, I’m not going to take part in the whole fascism debate (and by the way, Lin, did you really correct someone’s spelling, then say you weren’t going to “cross the isle” to vote for a Democrat? Which isle, the Isle of Man? Ireland? I’m confused.) No, I’m just checking in with Wanderlust. I’m not saying you have to believe that Kerry was a war hero, and I’m not saying that you have to admit that Bush dodged service. But please tell me you didn’t really say that Kerry was more like a draft dodger because he didn’t bleed enough when wounded while shooting at the enemy and getting shot at while on a Swift Boat in Viet Nam, while Bush was less like a draft dodger because he flew a “dangerous plane?” Please tell me that’s not true.
You know, sometimes liberals post inflammatory, ill-informed opinions that embarass me as a fellow liberal. I think you may have just crossed that line with some of your cohorts.
…and Lin for what it’s worth “judgement” is an excepted “variant” of “judgment”, look it up.

Amazing JDC. In response to your first comment, I figured (correctly) that you were impugning Bush. To return the snark, I invoked Clinton as we go into relativism and reality mode. You chastise me for invoking Clinton since you had not explicitly stated his name and felt, I presume, that I was presumptuous and jumping the gun. You promptly follow up with the “draft dodging chickenhawks” meme where you improperly attack Bush re military service. It would appear that my critique of Clinton was appropriately preemptory as your follow up belies your sincerity. This is all so predictable. T-ball, I tells ya’.
Topically, Bolton rocks.
