And just when you think you’ve heard it all when it comes to illegal aliens flouting US laws, here comes another one.
Charles Bueno came to the United States from Brazil on a tourist visa back in the 90’s. It expired in 1998, but he didn’t bother to actually leave, as required by law. And in the meantime, he managed to scrounge up enough money to buy a 1979 Cessna 210M (Google shows them selling for $170,000 – $250,000) and fly it around the country.
Recently, while flying from Fullerton, CA to Atlanta and then on to Boston (allegedly), he ran low on fuel. He made an emergency landing at Cannon Air Force Base. Officers immediately arrested Bueno, along with his five passengers — all illegal aliens from Brazil.
I can understand how this slipped through the cracks. Mr. Bueno actually registered the plane under his own name and address, and it’s not like we have a history of illegal aliens doing anything untoward with airplanes — one September morning back in 2001 excepted, of course.
But I shouldn’t be too outraged. After all, he’s just doing the work Americans don’t want to do. We do have this dreadful shortage of pilots who can afford a $200,000 airplane and are willing to fly other illegal aliens across the whole country.
