This time it’s Turkish civilians.
CAIRO (AP) – Supporters of Jordanian-born militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi said Saturday that they have kidnapped three Turkish workers in Iraq and threatened to behead them within 72 hours, the Arab television station Al-Jazeera reported.
The report of the abduction came hours before President Bush was to arrive in Turkey for a NATO summit, which will focus on winning the alliance’s help in establishing security in Iraq.
An al-Jazeera anchor said the kidnappers threatened in a statement to kill the three Turks unless Turkish companies withdraw from Iraq.
The station aired a videotaped warning from al-Zarqawi’s group, Tawhid and Jihad, showing the three men saying their names in Turkish and what kind of jobs they were doing in Iraq.More later.
