I just want to say a few things and I’m sure there will be those that dont agree, but personally i could give a shit. I know one thing for sure, that was the rawest, bone chilling, dose of reality i have ever seen. First and foremost let me express my empathy for Mr. Berg’s family and friends.I can not even imagine the horror of witnessing your child brutally tortured to death like that. For that is exactly what that was. Even though it wasnt more then 10 mins or so (approx) that man was tortured beyond belief. Having been working in the country for some time, he obviously had some idea of what was being read behind him, knowing he was most likely going to die, then to have the realization that they didnt even have enough humanity to at least sharpen the blade. These men hold the same beliefs and morals as those in the camp and you fucking people dare to have sympathy for those prisoners that were harassed. Who the hell do you think you are? And dont try to turn what i am saying into any kind of racial / national / religious biggotry. what i am saying is these people are alike because of their own admittance and kinship / friendship. And damn straight I am a strong believer in “an eye for an eye”!!! and if those men had beaten him and paraded him around naked and so forth that would have been at least somewhat understandable, NOT right or acceptable but understandable. But what they did is beyond and realm of rationality.
When 9/11 occured it to was so horrifing as to feel almost unreal. it was hatred and insanity at its best, as was this. When Bush decided that we were going to war, that was the first thing to come out of his mouth that made any sense, as far as i was concerned. But then he went and fucked that up too by trying to be politically correct / making sure he walk away unscathed if it didnt go over well with the masses. He should have been a fucking man , and proud American and said straight out we are after vengence!!! Paybacks are a Bitch!!! instead he cowered behind the guise of a war on terrorism… I know that as i sat there weeping for the men and women and children that were affected by the attacks on the towers, all the lives lost the sheer enormity of the pain it caused to our race… the human race; there was only one thought that went through my mind when seeing the reports of those bastards that laughed and rejoiced while the rest of humanity wept at our loss….. and it wasnt very ladylike let me tell you. something along the lines of gee i hope they put those lil cameras on the nose of the scud missle as it slams into your smiling faces. Bush should have told the UN to simply shut the fuck up if they didnt support our need to wipe those insane bastards off the face of the earth. He should have called the war what it was … Retaliation.. Vengence.. Paybacks.. Justice.. any of those would have been appropriate. Cause i gaurentee you most if not all of the soldiers that went to our defence were thinking they were gonna make those bastards pay for the pain they cause to so many. If Bush had wanted so badly to fight terrorism then it could have been fought back when daddy was in office. It isnt like this is uncommon actions and their tactics are nothing new so dont jump on your soap box about terrorism now MR PREZ..
As far as those that would believe the propaganda reguarding islamic religion and feel the need to condemn all who worship Allah .. you might want to read up on your own religious history before you decide to point your finger. i am not a person that believes in any one religion. they all are fundamentally based on the same beliefs.. This video is worse than anything I’ve ever seen. I waited in trepidation during the ‘speech’ for what I knew was the outcome. It seems so surreal and I have to pinch myself to remember to breathe and realize it’s actually happening. The world seems to be coming unglued right before our eyes. I hope peaceful cycle will emerge in my lifetime but we can only wait and see.

Another question about the video: why is it cut? You have the long speech where the time indicator says 2:something, then Berg is thrown to the floor. Then the actual decapitation, time 13:something.
Anyway, while I can definitely understand that people are upset (who wouldn’t be), I am appalled and frightened by the calls for retaliation.
Do the people crying for revenge realize that the US campaign in Iraq has cost between 15000 and 20000 lives, mostly Iraqi civilians? Or about five times the casualties from the 9/11 attacks.
Do you realize that the relatives of each of these persons feel exactly the same sentiment as you do, thirsting for revenge? And while Berg voluntarily went to Iraq as part of an invasion, the Iraqi civilians killed were innocent bystanders, victims of the struggle between forces they have no influence over.
I’m worried because I can only attribute these demands for revenge to an incredible elitist attitude: the US is good, the rest of the world is evil. US citizens are (the only?) free human beings, Iraqi citizens are unwashed animals. Nick Berg was a valuable individual, the thousands of Iraqi women and children killed were worthless. This is exactly the same arrogance and elitism that made soldiers take pictures of themselves smiling while humiliating prisoners.
What worries me more is that this elitism seems to be combined with paranoia: everybody is just out to get the US. It’s a matter of bombing them before they bomb us. Well, I bet Los Angeles criminals have killed more Americans than all Arab terrorists put together. Should we nuke LA? Or behead random samples of the population?
I don’t think that the atrocities committed by the US is worse than the atrocities committed by Saddam, or by terrorists, that’s not the point. The point is I expect better from a democratic, western, humanistic country whose ideals include individualism and freedom.
And how on earth am I to believe that the US can control Iraq, when it clearly can’t control its own troops?

My sincere sympathty to the family of Nicholas Berg.
We must continue to support George W. Bush and feel very fortunate we have a “Commander in Chief” who at least tells us the truth and does not speak from both sides of his mouth. We did not get that in 8 years of Clinton and could not expect to get anything close to it from John Kerry.
It certainly is not a war against a certain religion, nor a “war for oil”.
The terrorist regime must be dealt with and unfortunately it may take a long time and much dedication and sacrifice on the part of the American people. Eventually some of the reluctant foreign powers will step up to the plate and offer to help out, especially when it affects them. The question may be, “do we want their help”? They had their hands in the cookie jar long before this present conflict started only to help themselves financially, in violation of UN Resolutions. I’m not so sure we should be so quick to embrace their help at this time, when our soldiers are dying with weapons sold to Iraq from their countries for their own personal gain.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Nicholas Berg. That event alone should be enough to keep us focused on the type of element we are dealing with, and the extreme need to rid the “World” culture of these murderers.

Although Tony seems very deeply entrenched in our State Dept. and Defense Dept., he told me, for the first time, that he finally has come to believe that Bush must go.
I remember Machiavelli from Boys School, and I remember his writing that it is often more important to be feared than liked. But I think the world is a lot more complicated now, and while being liked may not be the most important thing, having 1.4 billion people hate us is, I’m afraid, not good at all.

Let me fix what was said because somehow it got cut off and mixed together. Was saying I disagree with the one that asked if we are stupid for wanting an eye for an eye. Even the bible talks about an eye for an eye and in this case I believe it would be appropriate. This isn’t something you slap their hand for. This is premeditated murder and in my opinion, these people have evilness all around them. One day their children may come for your children, then what will you say? Vengeance is not the answer? Maybe you will argue this knowing that the odds are against that but you know that sometimes we carry bad genes, dangerous genes. I still say “AN EYE FOR AN EYE” in this case or better yet, “A HEAD FOR A HEAD”. If nothing is done, you shall see more beheading… or worse.
