I have a hard time believing that there is not a terrorist agenda or at least a political agenda behind this story.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) – Greek police have increased scrutiny of Muslim immigrant groups and makeshift mosques in Athens – a city with no official place of worship for Muslims – ahead of the Aug. 13-29 Olympics.
(emphasis added)
It does sound like this has been going on for some time and the apparent increase of activity may only be due to Greece being more in the news due to the upcoming Olympics. I do predict that this Olympics will not go by without more Islam versus the world rhetoric or violence taking place. A fairly safe prediction given the rhetoric already out there.

I just hope they’re better at security than they were when I was stationed there in the ’70s and ’80s. OTOH, back then, almost all of the terrorism was performed by domestic groups, not Islamists.
There is no such thing as a temporary, makeshift mosque.
You’d think that the Greeks would know this, based on their history with wooden horses.
“There is no such thing as a temporary, makeshift mosque.”
Not true. Israel has demolished bedouin ones recently. (And I am a Zionist, lest you think I am disputing your point and not just correcting you factually.)
Then again, I think the Greeks are quite wary, given their history with the Turks and border with Albania.
Laurence,
I don’t know, doesn’t Israel think of it as just a temporary, makeshift mosque, sitting on top of their old temple in Jerusalem.
😉

I was stationed in Greece and Turkey during that time. Turkey had something like 1,000 times the number of killings, almost all by domestic groups. There were also synogogues and Jewish neighborhoods targeted, something one never saw in Greece.
If you were stationed there and followed the recent Nov 17th trials you saw that that group was identical in formulation philosphy methods and effectiveness to similar groups in Germany and itally, such as red brigades and bieder meihnhof (spelling?). thjose groups operated for decades as well.
I think the games in Greece will certainly be safer than in Atlanta were popple died at the hands of “domestic” terrorism — us fundaimentalist religious terrorism at that!
