John Hinckley Update

From the Washington Post:

A federal judge indicated yesterday that he is willing to let presidential assailant John W. Hinckley Jr. leave the grounds of St. Elizabeths Hospital for unsupervised visits with his parents but said he wants to hear first from officials at the psychiatric facility.

U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman expressed concern — and frustration — that no official from the hospital appeared during a three-day hearing this week on Hinckley’s request to leave the grounds for the first time without an escort. While it would appear highly unusual that a patient could get a hearing for unsupervised visits without the explicit blessing of the hospital holding him, reading Washington Post columnist Marc Fisher’s case against the Hinckley family sheds a new light on the current situation.
