Last week she was kissing a commie, this week she’s getting arrested in the House galley before the State Of The Union address. Remember last summer when Sheehan was still the darling of lefty bloggers, how they railed against the description of Sheehan as a “media whore?” Their faux outrage looks comical in hindsight…
WASHINGTON (AP) – Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier in Iraq who reinvigorated the anti-war movement, was arrested and removed from the House gallery Tuesday night just before President Bush’s State of the Union address, a police spokeswoman said.
Sheehan, who had been invited to attend the speech by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., was charged with demonstrating in the Capitol building, a misdemeanor, said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. Sheehan was taken in handcuffs to police headquarters a few blocks away and her case was processed as Bush spoke
Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.
Police handcuffed Sheehan and removed her from the gallery before Bush arrived. Sheehan was to be released on her own recognizance, Schneider said.
“I’m proud that Cindy’s my guest tonight,” Woolsey said in an interview before the speech. “She has made a difference in the debate to bring our troops home from Iraq.”What’s next for Mama Moonbat, streaking through a presidential press conference?
Rep. Woolsley is the one responsible for this fiasco. You can express your displeasure via e-mail if you’re a constituent, otherwise you’ll have to do so by phone – (202) 225-5161. You might inquire about the cost to taxpayers of the Capitol Police who had to deal with Mama Moonbat, and if the Congresswoman is proud of that…

Sheehan just makes this too easy for those of us with even half a brain! What did the offensive tee shirt say?
i faxed her –number is on her website–doesnt Sheehan always look dirty and like she smells bad??
“Why didn’t they arrest the REPUBLICAN T-shirt wearing protestor?”
-they did arrrest her.
Wearing a tee shirt in support of the troops is NOT a protest shirt!
The following is Rule 1 for Rules of Dress for the Press. The same is most likely applied to visitors to the House Galleries.
1. Persons eligible for admission to the Periodical Press Galleries must be bona fide resident correspondents of reputable standing, giving their chief attention to the gathering and reporting of news. They shall state in writing the names of their employers and their additional sources of earned income; and they shall declare that, while a member of the Galleries, they will not act as an agent in the prosecution of claims, and will not become engaged or assist, directly or indirectly, in any lobbying, promotion, advertising, or publicity activity intended to influence legislation or any other action of the Congress, nor any matter before any independent agency, or any department or other instrumentality of the Executive branch; and that they will not act as an agent for, or be employed by the Federal, or any State, local or foreign government or representatives thereof; and that they will not, directly or indirectly, furnish special or “insider” information intended to influence prices or for the purpose of trading on any commodity or stock exchange; and that they will not become employed, directly or indirectly, by any stock exchange, board of trade or other organization or member thereof, or brokerage house or broker engaged in the buying and selling of any security or commodity. Applications shall be submitted to the Executive Committee of the Periodical Correspondents’ Association and shall be authenticated in a manner satisfactory to the Executive Committee.
It is notable that Rep. Young’s wife, who was wearing a “support the troops” shirt was apparently also removed from the gallery during the State of the Union Address. I’m guessing she was not arrested as she cooperated with the Capitol Police rather than refusing to comply with their directions.
Her husband, Rep. Young of Florida, complained, demonstrating that he is either not aware of the rules or the fact that rules apply to everybody equally.
I am not really sure how to feel about this mother and her actions, it takes me time to THINK about the situation. Clearly also I would have to THINK about the FREEDOM of speech, as well as what is AMERICA and the world doing to live and make LIFE a better place. I am sadden about the living situation of the world, this I do not have to THINK about. I am also sadden about Coretta Scott King’s death and how it seems many have swept this death under the rugg and onto other issues. I still morn for the lost of a great person who lead the world closer to the word “FREEDOM”. I will better listen, think, and feel my heart towards “FREEDOM”. I do hope that many will take that step with me.
To all the moonbats screaming about the unjustice:
A Pennsylvania school teacher was yanked out of a VIP Senate gallery and briefly detained last week during the impeachment trial for wearing a T-shirt with graphic language dissing President Clinton.
Dave Delp, 42, of Carlisle, Pa., and a friend had just settled into their seats last Saturday when four Capitol security guards approached them. Delp said yesterday he was ordered to button his coat and follow the guards.
Of course, these same people were screaming about that injustice also.
Right?????

So Senator Young’s wife was removed for promoting, rather than protesting as is being incorrectly reported by AOL. I love how AOL’s report trys to tie the two incidents together as if they had commited the exact same offence.
Another Mother Speaks Out —
My brothers and sisters in peace, I wish I could tell you that since my son has returned to civilian life our family is whole and happy, but this is not the case. My 21-year-old son is homeless, unemployed and on January 11th in the early morning he drove his car over an embankment. Anyone who has seen the car says he shouldn’t have survived the crash.
I remember the day I got the phone call … My son was back in the states. I fell to the floor sobbing, thanking the creator that my son was alive. Little did I know at the time that all that returned was a physical shell. My son’s spirit and soul must still be wandering the streets of Iraq.
You’d have to know my son – this child turned man. My son used to be a sensitive guy. I remember when he wanted a kitten because dogs scared him. We went to a farm and he picked the scrawniest, ugliest, smallest kitten there. My son slept with that cat until the day he left for boot camp. Is this the same person that used to hold my hand as a teenager or throw his arm around me when we were out in public? Is this the same person who always made sure we said goodnight to each other and expressed our love? Who, when we were apart, talked on the phone as frequently as possible and always ended each phone call with, “I love you?” Is this the son who held me in his arms as we cried together at the airport when he was leaving for Iraq? Where is my son? GEORGE BUSH, GIVE ME BACK MY SON!
My son wouldn’t look me in the eyes when he first returned from Iraq. He always seemed nervous and jumpy. Riding in the car with him he weaved from lane to lane avoiding any road debris. Toll booths made him crazy. He didn’t sleep at night and seemed on edge. Alcohol was becoming his way to induce sleep.
Fast-forward to August 2005. I hadn’t heard from my son in a while. He had been slowly pushing away everyone that loved and cared for him. We live in different states and it’s hard to track him. In August, I found him. He looked like a skeleton. He looked so skinny. The soldier’s body was long gone. His eyes held sadness. He asked for 20 bucks for food as he had none in his refrigerator. He only visited with me for a half hour even though I had driven 300 miles to see him. He took off. I went home. The phone calls became less and less. Days turned to months. I didn’t hear from him at Thanksgiving, not a word at Christmas, New Year’s passed without a sound.
Then came the dream. Mothers are bonded to their children. We know their hurts, their pains, we feel them even when they’re thousands of miles away. On January 9th the dream came. In the dream there was an Iraqi, my son and me. We were attached through ropes. Suddenly my son was hoisted in the air and his body slammed against a beam and he couldn’t breathe, he was choking … I will never forget the look in his eyes. I woke up unnerved and unable to return to sleep.
The next morning I called my son’s ex-girlfriend. They had been dating since their sophomore year in high school, but he had recently x’ed her out of his life. She stated my son had been arrested over the weekend for fighting. My son has only had one speeding ticket in his entire life … Certainly not violent. Then, 2 hours later, my mother called. When my son returned from Iraq he bought a car with his combat pay, my mother cosigned. My mom stated that the bank had contacted her about a week ago and he was behind in payments. The car was up for repossession. I was becoming increasingly worried. When I got in to work the next day I had an emergency phone call from my sons ex-girlfriend. She told me through her tears that my son had driven his car over an embankment. She saw the car and said she couldn’t believe he survived. She had talked to some of his friends who told her that he was crying that night and talking about the war. Whenever my son gets a few beers in him his friends tell me he talks about the war. They describe it as “crazy talk.” He wants the blood of the Iraqis he killed off his hands. He then left and drove his car at high speed over an embankment.
I have spoken with my son twice since then. I didn’t go see him at his request. The first time I spoke with him I began crying, telling him how much I loved him. His response, “Whatever.”
During the second conversation he said he feels better. Does he feel better because his body feels bruised and broken? It now matches his insides.
George Bush is going to give us his state of the union … well this is the state of my family. People say to me he volunteered, he knew what he was getting into. My son was still a teenager, he had no idea what he was getting into. Can anyone really comprehend war unless they’ve been there? The war has come home … it is coming home with each soldier.
My son’s body survived Iraq … nothing else.
I wonder if moore et al need to roll her in flour at the moonbat gang-bangs?
I wonder who Jesus Christ would support? A grieved mother exercising her rights, or your Dictator Bush? Who has more blood on their hands? Bush or Sheehan? Who would Christ side with, huh? Can you sleep at night you hateful wretch? Can you?
You and you’re putrid Right wingers have nothing in common with the moral high ground you claim to own. If there is a Christ he is ashamed of your hate and of your dictator and the blood you love so much in the name of war. Bravo, turd-burglar. Bravo. Now, treat your self to some books. You know? Reading. Supplant your hatred with some intellect. Coward.
Mrs. Sheehan is allowed the opportunity to voice her opinion. However, respect for government that she chooses to live under is paramount, decorum is the responsibility of the individual. For this reason choose the right place and the right time for your demonstration of personal feelings. I do not in any way agree with Mrs. Sheehan, I greive with her for the loss of her son. My mother would greive heavily if she lost me in a similar situation, but listening to the rest of her family Casey was a MAN who understood the choices that he made. Not only did he understand that he was putting himself in harms way, but he beleived in the operation that he was participating in as a soldier. To all of those who have choosen to serve and to those who have paid the ultimate price and their families I say THANK YOU! The STOU speach was about moving forward and the hope that this country has, the attempts to make politcal statements in disruption of that occasion are unwarrented, unwanted, and irresponsible. Mrs. Sheehan if you would choose to treat your adversaries with respect rather than seithing hatred you might see that intelligent conversation and genuine undestanding could be possible, but because you choose to use rhetoric and blow hard tactics, you are veiwed as a WART on the face of the U.S.A.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
truth,
You sound sincere, and I truly feel for you and your family. I thank your son for his service, and I hope he can come to grips with his demons and get on with his life. It sounds like it was indeed a mistake for your son to go to war, but that doesn’t mean the war was a mistake.
Since the thread has devolved into anecdotes, does that mean if I can post more quotes from parents (with absolute moral authority, of course) who lost childred in Iraq that are supportive of the war, we win the argument?
1. I love it how righties call her a media whore but are the ones who give her the most “air” time. I think most centered liberals have moved on and beyond, especially after her crazy Chavez act.
2. This could of been avoided with a simple “formal attire required” rule.
3. Handcuffs were over the top.
For those of you who are insisting that Cindy Sheehan broke the law, a friend, who happens to be an AUSA
(Asst. U.S. Atty.) points out that the law has already been ruled unconstitutional. See http://www.dcd.uscourts.gov/97-1337c.pdf
Some one must have told the head of security at the capital that since they have acknowledged that Sheehan shouldn’t have been arrested and have started issuing appologies.
Rance,
your cite was a case that determined a prayer was not a demonstration, excuse me, I am still laughing at the irony of that. Cindy! was handcuffed and arrested because she refused to obey a Federal Marshall, good luck on getting that declared unconstitutional.
CorpLeech,
it wasn’t a “rightie” who set up this little media stunt, and if you think she had any intention of doing anything but getting arrested and basking in the ensuing attention you are beyond ignorant.
i’m glad your all eating your words.
Oh and read this:
It is a sad irony that on the very day she [Coretta Scott King] died, the president cheaply invoked her great contribution at virtually the same moment his government was silencing the woman who carries her message today. Arresting Cindy Sheehan for asking how many more American troops must die on the same day that Coretta Scott King passsed away is perfectly emblematic of the bankruptcy of every soaring tribute George W. Bush makes to freedom and democracy.
read the whole thing at digbysblog.blogspot.com
Oh and one last thing, I find it remarkable that Bush can say the military commanders make the decisions about troop levels, not pols in DC. But that was the exact opposite when Shinseki told them they’d need 300,000 troops before the war. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.
I guess no one told you not to take that brown acid, sean/nyc?
Geez, I thought that “what really happened” comment was really boring satire until I got to the bottom and saw the link to the Moore site so I guess it’s “real”. Sheehan is a one-note wonder. Her entire platform is “my son died.” We get it. Over and over again. If her son had died during a routine training drill over here would she still blame Bush for her son’s death? I think she would. She’s mentally unbalanced. I realized that when I read her insensitive comments about the media ignoring the war during Hurricane Rita. If this is all the Democrats have in their arsenal then 2008 should be a breeze. Her political “friends” tolerate her for now because she’s a useful tool but at some point she’s going to be more of a liability then a help and she’s going to be dropped hard. I actually kinda feel a bit bad for her because I know it’s going to happen.
Arresting her was beyond retarted but I don’t believe for a minute that she didn’t want that from the beginning.
nahanni
is the brown acid like the blue pill or the red pill?

This is what it is about.
You might read this:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/01/sheehan.arrest/index.html
“On Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said neither woman should have been removed from the chamber. “We made a mistake,” he told CNN….
“Just wearing a T-shirt is not unlawful,” Gainer said. Wearing a T-shirt and engaging in actions meant to draw attention to the shirt is against the law, he said, but neither woman was doing so.”
CorpLeech,
it wasn’t a “rightie” who set up this little media stunt, and if you think she had any intention of doing anything but getting arrested and basking in the ensuing attention you are beyond ignorant.
Wow, talking about an ignorant statement. So it’s ok to arrest people because law enforcement believe they have the intent to break the law sometime in the future?
Of course your “point” is moot, since she has already been released and no one could think up of a crime to charge her with.
God Bless the USSA. Land of the free*
*if you agree with government only
Cindy Sheehan’s son was killed in Iraq because he was deployed on a mission SPECIFICALLY searching for weapons of mass destruction quite a while after it was proven that Iraq had none. Why were her son and others sent on this mission? Ms. Sheehan has every right to be outraged that her son died a political pawn.
Why was one arrested and the other not? You say different offense? How is it different other than the letters on the T-Shirt? Sheehan wasn’t even given a chance to leave. She was arrested solely because she disagreed with the administration and the courts are going to prove it. I bet they asked the republican to leave AFTER they arrested Sheehan because they were caught in their hippocracy.
