Disgraced former New York Times editor Harold Raines sums up the conventional wisdom of the media opinion makers in a quote from August 2004:
“Does anyone in America doubt that Kerry has a higher IQ than Bush? I’m sure the candidates’ SATs and college transcripts would put Kerry far ahead.”
One guy had some doubts…
Steve Sailor has been doing some investigative work, and according to recently (and not so recently) unearthed test records George Bush most likely has a higher IQ than John Kerry. Read all about it…

I am a Bush supporter, but even I know he’s not that smart. All I care about is cutting my taxes
Someone else did an analysis like this a while back and concluded that Kerry is not what he is reputed to be. I forget which blog it was.
Isn’t it Howell Raines?
Read the article. The characterization of Bush as competitive v. Kerry as ambitious seems dead on to me.
It also confirms what I already knew: I’m way smarter than either of them! A lot of people are wishing they could have stood at a third podium during the debates, including myself. Oh well – the spoils go to the hardest working, luckiest, competent person, not the smartest.
Yeah Bob, forget about the fact that he is a skilled pilot on a “widow-making” aircraft.
Forget that he attended Yale and Harvard (and graduated, by the way)
Everyone knows that he got a free pass to all of that since he’s a rich kid and couldn’t possibly be as smart as you.
Bob just proves the effect of negative publicity that the liberals have employed against republicans for years. Probably back before Quayle. The key phrase to watch when a liberal is lying is when the preface anything with “everyone knows”
IQ supposedly measures intelligence. But it never measures how “smart” a person is. And it certainly isn’t the total measure of a person.
Neither Bush nor Kerry understand the science behind “Global Warming”. One is a business man, the other a lawyer. But Bush was “smart” enough to understand that the theory has major problems. Kerry bought it completely saying he didn’t understand the science, but was worried that the theory might be and probably is correct. Why?
Because he read Michael Oppenheimer’s book.
In light of this week’s news regarding the statistic errors in Dr. Mann’s “hockey stick”, I wonder if Oppenheimer is still supporting the theory of Global Warming?
The real point is this: John Kerry supports Global Warming, but he doesn’t know why. Now I ask, how intelligent is that?
One is a business man, the other a lawyer.””
Business man????
Have you looked at the history of the companies he’s run?
Based on his track record as a “business man”, how many weeks do think he could survive on “The Apprentice” before he got to explain his departure over the closing credits?
Hah, funnily enough, I was looking through that issue myself this morning.
I tried to google Kerry’s SAT score, and obviously just found a bunch of links saying he hadn’t realeased it.
This seems extraordinarily fishy to me, especially since they are claiming Kerry is smarter. However, one would imagine that if he did have a higher score, he would have released them. Since he hasn’t, then he probably isn’t.
Until he has released his scores, I think we are safe to assume that he is dumber than Bush.
Kerry got a 1400 on the SAT….
…in Cambodia during Christmas of ’69 when Nixon was in the Whitehouse.
well I dunno..his resume is pretty impressive:
JOB APPLICATION
NAME: John Kerry
RESIDENCE: 7 mansions, including one in Washington DC, worth multi-millions. I served in Vietnam (four months).
EXPERIENCE:
Law Enforcement. In my career as a U.S. Senator, I’ve voted to cut every law enforcement, CIA, and Defense bill. I ordered the city of Boston to remove a fire hydrant in front of my mansion, thereby endangering my neighbors in the event of fire. I served in Vietnam (four months).
MILITARY:
I served in Vietnam (four months). I used three minor injuries to get an early discharge from the military and service in Vietnam (as documented by the attending doctor). I served in Vietnam (four months). I then returned to the U.S., joined Jane Fonda in protesting the war, and insulted returning Vietnam vets, claiming they committed atrocities and were baby killers. I served in Vietnam (four months). I threw my medals, ribbons, or something away in protest. Or did I? My book “Vietnam Veterans Against the War: The New Soldier”, shows how I truly feel about the military. I served in Vietnam (four months).
COLLEGE:
I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. Unlike my counterpart George Bush, I have no higher education and did not get admitted to Harvard nor graduate with an M.B.A
PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:
After College and Vietnam, I ran for the U.S. Congress and have been there ever since. I have no real world experience except marrying very rich women and running their companies vicariously through them. I served in Vietnam (four months).
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
As a U.S. Senator I set the record for the most liberal voting record, exceeding even Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton. I have consistently failed to support our military and CIA by voting against their budgets, thus gutting our country’s ability to defend itself. Although I voted for the Iraq War, now I am against it and refuse to admit that I voted for it. I voted for every liberal piece of legislation. I have no plan to help this country but I intend to raise taxes significantly if I am elected. I served in Vietnam (four months).
My wealth so far exceeds that of my counterpart, George Bush, that he will never catch up. I make little or no charitable contributions and have never agreed to pay any voluntary excess taxes in Massachusetts, despite family wealth in excess of $ 700 million. I served in Vietnam (four months).
I (we) own 28 manufacturing plants (Heinz) outside of the U.S. in places like Asia, Mexico and Europe. We can make more profit from the cheaper cost of labor in those Countries, although I blame George Bush for sending all of the other jobs out of Country. I served in Vietnam (four months).
Although I claim to be in favor of alternative energy sources, Ted Kennedy and I oppose windmills off Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard as it might spoil our view of the ocean as we cruise on our yachts. I served in Vietnam (four months).
RECORDS AND REFERENCES:
None. However, I served in Vietnam (four months).
PERSONAL I practice my Catholic faith whenever cameras are present. I ride a Serotta Bike. I love to ski/snowboard. I call my Gulfstream V Jet the “Flying Squirrel”. I call my $850,000 42-foot Hinckley twin diesel yacht the “Scarmouche”.
I am fascinated by rap and hip-hop and feel it reflects our real culture.
I own several “Large” SUVs including one parked at my Nantucket summer mansion, though I am against large, polluting, inefficient vehicles and blame George Bush for our energy problems. I served in Vietnam (four months).
PLEASE CONSIDER MY EXPERIENCE WHEN VOTING IN 2004
Bush is human. Kerry is not–he’s a robot. You can “flash” a robot’s memory banks and make it smarter in a moment. However, robot’s are prone to repeating dull and empty phrases like, “I have a plan…” ad nauseum.
Who cares about SAT’s and college transcripts and IQ? My IQ was 145, my SAT’s were 2000 points – the absolute best you can get – not one wrong. I was grabbed by every college there is but it’s what you do with it that matters. Even if their tests were different, things change – like experience. Bush has worked and has a good resume’ whereas Kerry took the easy ride by becoming a senator and hardly showing up for work, despite all the money he makes. so who’s smarter: Bush
Bush IS a businessman. More importantly, he thinks like one. That is part of the reason that business people tend to like his style and academic people tend to like Kerry’s speaking style. If you talked like Kerry in a meeting you would get laughed at. Or everyone would be asleep.
I wouldn’t base my consideration of a business person’s ability on “The Apprentice” anyway.

Actually, George Bush would probably end up throwing Donald Trump out of the board room and taking over if he was on the Apprentice, selling the show and making a few million on the side. Again look at his business record.
The man can make the best out of any situation.
Rance
I hardly think The Apprentice reflects the real business world. Some of us out here who have our own money at risk (scary!) understand just how difficult it is to start and run a business. The vast majority of start-ups fail. Perhaps 2% succeed. I have failed before. I have also been successful. Believe me when I say you learn much in either case.
“The two tests aren’t perfectly comparable.”
So, if I get 10/10 on one test and you get 11/20 on another incomparable test, then who’s smarter? I guess you got 11, which is higher than 10, which means….
Give me a break. I’m certain that Kerry once got a low score on some test somewhere. And I’m sure Bush once got a high score on some test somewhere. Thus, using these two incomparable test…
Kerry is smarter. Just listen to Bush talk. He sounds like he’s drunk 🙂
Randy,
Yes, Bush isn’t the greatest speaker ever to work in the oval office, although he can give an effective speech, and he’s better on the stump than in the debate format.
But while Kerry may sound good, the content of his answers often doesn’t amount to much. In other words, Kerry sounds senatorial, and the Senate is where he should stay.
Everyone knows from the last administration that the ability to speak eloquently and to have charisma are not as valid indicators of a strong leader, as strong character, courage, and steadfastness, as George Bush has displayed.
Many folks have suggested Kerry is smarter than Bush. The most common and silly rationale for this claim is based on Bush
