Excerpting it would be pointless but Allah has something that might require keeping an eye on. Seems Time magazine is doing a story on Rathergate… Previews look like their coverage will not be much better than Dan Rather’s.
But read it yourself, maybe we’re just be cynical — of course I’m fond of quoting George Bernard Shaw:
“The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.”
Bill in DC has more excerpts from it. Looks like a shill job to me at this point.
CBS did a number on Bush and instead of apologizing and retracting all the damage they did, they made it sound like they were going to look into it more as if the documents, although fakes, could be real and skipped over the point trying to save face. Very disappointing. Like I told you CNN had a question on their main page asking “who do you believe? CBS or President Bush?” Disgusting. Their statement that we all waited for came out like “well, we’re going to have to do more investigating.” So basically even tho the documents were fake and proven to be fake, it wasn’t like they were going to investigate how they got fake documents but whether or not they were “plausible” as if they could be true anyway. In the end, they got the other mass media involved in it, newspapers involved in it – as if this was really something to look into – not like into how we got fake documents, but could they be true even though they are not authentic. It’s a real mess and everyone who is not online, actually feels that maybe there is something to investigate. They played a bad hand but didn’t deal it right in the end, saving face, but putting this question out there on President Bush’s record as if it were a real question. It’s really sad; the news papers are carrying it, the other tv channels are carrying it, news magazines are obviously carrying it – none of which would be happening if CBS just came right out and said “We want to apologize to President Bush for these forged documents. They are not authenic and what we reported on is completely wrong. We will look into where they came from and why but we apologize for putting President Bush through this. It was our fault and we should have done further investigating before reporting on bogus information.” They would have been deemed more credible if they had come right out and said that instead of the statement that they did release. Due to that, this is being carried by everyone else when it should not be a subject under discussion at all. Are you being cynical? Absolutely not. What is happening is a gross injustice and misrepresentation to the President. Now they have several places investigating; Congress due to Tom HARKIN has decided to do an investigation on this – and all of it is WRONG!! gawd, it’s driving me nuts. How dare they? Look at what they have done because of their released statement the other night instead of releasing one like I just wrote? How can they continue on this path? For those not on the blogs, those people will never know that this is all a fabrication and is hurtful to the President and his family, never mind his campaign. ARGH!!
I SAY WE BOYCOTT CBS and ALL it’s stations as you listed in an earlier spot. I say we never watch CBS and we certainly never watch news or 60 Minutes. BOYCOTT THEM ALL. Don’t buy TIME, don’t buy ANY newspaper or newsmagazine that is going along with this bullshit. Get the HIPBOOTS out and PROVE it ourselves just how misleading CBS and Dan Rather and cohorts have been. BOYCOTT Television. With all the people we have here on the blogosphere, WE can make it difficult for ALL of them to even survive; make them lose customers and PROMOTE the truth!!! Once they start losing money and it really hits at their numbers, MAYBE they’ll do something about it and fix their credibility. The mainstream is NOT saying that Dan Rather and others were wrong and they ARE questioning whether or not we should believe President Bush on this issue that is based totally on falsehoods. All we can do is try to spread the word on these lies, boycott television news, newspapers, news magazines to the point that they actually start feeling it in their pockets and ruin their credibility as well as any others who are doing this. Talk about CONSPIRACY THEORY!!! This is getting so far out of hand, it makes me want to projectile vomit. How about some of the best of you going on talk shows? calling into radio shows? Writing to the Editor of newspapers? There’s lots we can do to ruin them, so why don’t we? It’s not like there is a question here, we know they are forgeries, we know they were set ups, we know the papers and the information is not authentic, so why don’t we physically do something about it by all the bloggers who know the situation intimately enough to make sense to everyone else out there listening? There’s enough of us, we can make a dent, we can make a change and we can bring CBS to it’s knees. We can even force 60 minutes off the air and Dan Rather out of a job.
So why don’t we do just that?

Take out that new feature and it would not double posts.

Firstbrokenangel – I noticed you mentioned Sen. Tom Harkin. Well, good ol’ Tommy is one of the biggest liars in the nation when it comes to military records. Harkin used to call himself a Vietnam Vet who flew combat missions in Vietnam. He embellished his war stories and was held up as an icon of the Liberal movement. He was a legend. That is, until 1992 when he attempted to gain the Democrat Party nomination for president. It came out that Tom Harkin never fought in Vietnam. He delivered mail and supplies in Japan. His stories of wartime heroism were baloney. Yet, here’s that liar calling our President a liar over a physical examination he did or did not take. And no where do you see or hear the story of Harkin’s war record — or lack of it, I should say.
You mean Time magazine is engaging in shoddy, biased reporting?
Getouttahere.
Time Magazine reveals itself as a Liberal rag — to Liberals, there is no truth so they are free to spin and lie and fabricate. To them evil is not creating forgeries to hurt a president, but the fact that people — mostly conservatives — discovered the forgeries. Had blogger not existed, does anyone really believe the Rather story would have been discredited by his colleagues?
Over the past 10 years, I have quit reading or listening to, in chronological order:
Newsweek, NYT, Time, ABC, NBC, “All Things Considered”, CNN, MSNBC, Garrison Keillor. (I quit watching CBS long. long ago when Uncle Walter left. He’s a bitter, deluded lefty, but I liked him anyway.)
Guess what: I haven’t missed a thing. In fact, I’m far more widely and deeply informed than when I thought those cast-offs were reliable or entertaining. There are many many alternative sources for information, analysis and commentary. Exercise your right to avoid propagandized news and entertainment.
As with earlier notice (other day, here in Wizbang!) as to the very uppity presentation by a Public Relations firm, trying to make itself more attractive by claiming affiliation with the story itself (Docugate, also, earlier, Swiftvets), the big media appears to be presenting ongoing “coverage” — if it can be called that because they are no longer covering Rathergate/Docugate so much as they are covering their arses — in such a fashion as to make other sources (ahem, that means bloggers) look questionable, even dubious.
No surprise there but it does represent competition. They’ve seen the competition and it is bloggers. So, they’re going negative about bloggers, at least going negative about what statements are made by bloggers, by lumping, generalizing to such an extent that no substance is represented about bloggers. Thus, they succeed — in their message, their format, their LANGUAGE that many still seem to find worthwhile — in putting down their competition.
Notice they never elevate bloggers TO the level of competition, however, which would require further explanation and actual coverage. Instead, they do that lumping-generalization thing and place themselves (whatever the source, be it Newsweek, TIME in this case, CBS, etc.) in some forefront position (“…we did this…” or “we met with them…” or, otherwise, anything active in tense and position).
It’s just marketing. It’s now, however, the theatre of marketing (CBS, TIME, etc.). Journalism is now the realm of bloggers. Watching the EMMY’s convinced me that “media” is now theatre, and that theatre has never been creative so much as it has been well marketed. And it’s blue: a parody of the Swiftvets’ advertising broadcast worldwide during the EMMY Awards as entertainment during a break in programming — the glittering audience laughing at it — and Streisand wearing the pink draperies…it’s the People’s Republic of Hollywood. TIME is no different ’cause they need the same audience, at least rely on them for content.
