UK Personal injury claims company, The Accident Group, laid off 2,500 employees.
That’s not the interesting part. The twist to the story is that employees getting the axe were notified via a text message on their cell phones.
Here’s a quote from the Gulf Daily News (of all places):
… some workers said they were informed of the layoffs by SMS text message and accused the company of insensitivity. Workers with mobile phones said they were sent a message asking them to call a telephone number at head office. When they did, they heard a recording from administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers informing them they were being laid off and would not be paid salaries for May.
