Congresswoman Ilhan Omar from Minnesota has been causing a lot of pain for American Jews and discomfort for Democrats lately with her continued anti-semitic rants. She has caused so much trouble that now House Democrat leaders are beginning to get pressure from Jewish groups to do something about this woman and her Jew and Israel hatred. From the Washington Free Beacon:
Omar, who has been singled out multiple times in her short career on Congress due to several anti-Semitic comments, continued to double down on her belief that pro-Israel members of Congress are more loyal to Israel than America on Sunday.
In yet another tweet alleging that those who support Israel are not loyal to America—an age old anti-Semitic canard that has earned Omar rebukes from Democrats and Republicans—Omar made clear she will not support the historic U.S.-Israel as a member of Congress.
Omar’s continued use of anti-Semitic smears has now led a group of leading Jewish organizations to take action. They sent a letter early Monday to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Elliot Engel asking them to immediately strip Omar of her seat on the committee, which plays a key role in supporting the U.S-Israel military alliance.
“In light of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s recent anti-Semitic tweets, statements, and address before Islamic Relief USA on Saturday, February 23rd, we, the undersigned organizations, request that you immediately remove her as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” the groups wrote.
Nancy Pelosi herself placed Rep. Omar on the Foreign Affairs Committee, which infuriated a lot of people because of as Omar’s clear anti-semitism, particularly her support of the BDS movement, which even Chuck Schumer called anti-semitic. If House leadership does not respond in any way, it sends the clear signal they agree with Omar’s view on Israel.
Pelosi won’t ever admit she screwed up in placing Omar on the Foreign Affairs Committee as that would betray weakness, yet she must do something to satisfy Jewish voters. The solution: condemn anti-semitism in general without condemning Rep. Omar specifically. In fact, according to Katie Pavlich, the resolution won’t even mention Omar by name.
Will a general condemnation of anti-semitism satisfy those demanding Pelosi remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs committee for her continued anti-semitism? We shouldn’t need a government condemnation of anti-semitism in 21st Century America. Opposition to anti-semitism should be the default position today and Americans need to continue pushing for Nancy Pelosi to remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs committee. Anything else is unacceptable.
Update: Unbelievable. The Democrats don’t seem to have it in them to vote to condemn anti-semitism. This, from Sheryl Gay Stolberg:
UPDATE: Vote on resolution condemning anti-Semitism may be pushed back. Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus pressing for a delay. https://t.co/EyV8Xm1v0p

What do moderate Democrats take from this? That anti-semitism will soon be a plank in the DNC platform? They have to seriously consider if they want to be associated with people who refuse to condemn Jew and Israel hatred. If they’re wise, they’ll run as far away from the Democrats as possible because it’s becoming clearer by the day that Rep. Ilhan Omar and her anti-semitic ilk are the face and identity of the Democrat party.
