Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) stated on the Senate floor that she will vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. In what I consider the speech of her life, she passionately defended Kavanaugh’s judicial record and defended the presumption of innocence standard that must pervade our moral sensibilities. She also decried the betrayal of Christine Ford’s confidentiality, but insisted that her uncorroborated claims should not penalize Kavanaugh. If Ford must be heard with compassion and respect, so must Kavanaugh.
Kudos to Senator Collins for doing the right thing.
