This evening, President Trump announced his selection of Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. The radical Left (Democrats) were lining up against the nomination prior to the president’s announcement. These “open-minded,” self-proclaimed “liberals” have promised to make the nomination process an epic battle in an all-out effort to prevent Kavanaugh from taking his seat on the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh 53, is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit with a history in politics. Before he was nominated to the D.C. circuit by George W. Bush, he was the former president’s staff secretary and worked for Bush during the 2000 Florida vote recount. He also played a lead role in drafting Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr’s 1998 report on Bill Clinton. He is a Yale Law School graduate.
On the appeals court, he’s voted to strike down environmental regulations and said he would have overturned internet regulations issued while Barack Obama was president. He dissented from a ruling that let an undocumented immigrant teenager get an abortion while in federal custody.
Trump said that Kavanaugh has “impeccable credentials” and is “universally regarded as one of the finest and sharpest legal minds of our time.”
Kavanaugh, a former Kennedy clerk, said that he was “deeply honored” to replace the retiring justice.
“No president has ever consulted more widely, or talked with more people from more backgrounds to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination,” Kavanaugh said of Trump.
In addition to abortion, the court could shift to the right on the death penalty, racial discrimination, environmental law and gay rights, all areas where Kennedy at least sometimes joined the court’s liberal wing. Chief Justice John Roberts may now become the swing vote.
The Antifa Democrats (redundant, I know) typically view the Court’s role as a mouthpiece for an agenda they couldn’t hope to realize legislatively. Instead of providing reasoned, persuasive arguments to the body politic, they would rather force their views on the entire population via judicial fiat. The latter option appeals to them because there are no logically defensible arguments for their policies. And they cannot stomach a society wherein somebody actually disagrees with their beliefs. Their beliefs, by virtue of the fact that they invented them, must be rammed down everybody’s throat at any cost.
Conservatives, on the other hand, simply believe that a judge’s role is to interpret the law as understood and intended by the People who crafted it. For all their talk about abortion, gay rights, etc., leftists refuse to see that conservatives have not tried to read an abortion ban or a gay marriage ban into the Constitution. Unlike leftists, conservatives see a Constitution which specifies the authority of the federal government while reserving the rest to the states. Were conservatives activists like their fascist counterparts, they’d ban everything they’re against. On the contrary, they understand that the Founders put their trust in the People. They understand that the People did not empower judges to function as another legislative body. They understand that a judge abdicates his moral responsibility if he supplants the will of the People with his own.
The enemies of our constitutional republic are not conservatives; they are Democrats—root and branch.
