Being in charge of a business means making hard decisions. The CEO of CVS faced that problem recently and it looks like he was up to the task, CVS no longer includes Viagra in their prescription drug coverage.
They will, however, carry other magic beans .
The drugs will still be sold at CVS/pharmacy stores, but customers who carry prescription benefit insurance with CVS/Caremark will no longer receive coverage for them.
CVS (CVS) said the medicines dropped from the list of drugs the company covers all have cheaper equivalents that are still covered by its insurance plan.
For example, customers taking Pfizer’s (PFE) Viagra for erectile dysfunction will be able to take Cialis, made by Eli Lilly (LLY).
They’re also dropping coverage for Abilify, and antipsychotic. Honestly, I don’t think dropping coverage for both of those is a wise move. Think about it, do you really want somebody taking antipsychotic drugs finding out they’re losing that coverage and then finding out they won’t be able to get Viagra too?
Probably time for bullet proof glass at the prescription counter.
