Pope Francis vs. God?

AP:”Pope Francis says nothing can justify the use of the death penalty.” Does Pope Francis know that God Himself once ordered the death penalty to be used? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Exodus 21:14: “If someone willfully attacks and kills another by treachery, you shall take the killer from my altar for execution.”

Granted, the Almighty ordered the death penalty for a specific society during a specific time in antiquity. Still, one can’t make a biblical case against all use of the death penalty.

It is one thing to claim that the death penalty should have a very limited use. It is another thing to claim that the death penalty is never just.

Perhaps Pope Francis is merely promoting an opinion about the death penalty that his predecessors promoted. Either that, or perhaps Pope Francis is just a bleeding-heart Peronist.*

*Side Issue: Modern-day Peronism is a bit confusing.

Susana Decibe (former Education Minister of Argentina) writes, “My opinion is that Peronism has become a particular form of being Argentine …”

In a working paper for the National Bureau for Economic Research, economists Dr. Rafael Di Tella and Dr. Juan Dubra state, “While income and education suggest that Peronists (in relative terms) look like the American Democrats, their beliefs and values suggest that Peronists are the Argentine equivalent of the Republicans.”

Global Security.org reports that, when Carlos Menem was the President of Argentina, “he changed the [Peronist] party’s direction and adopted the free-market-free-trade reforms advocated by Washington.” Susana Decibe states, “Peronism under President Carlos Menem made bold changes and oversaw Argentina’s entry into the free-market economy.”

So, a person can be a Peronist and still advocate a free-market economy. Indeed, Pope Francis has openly said, “The Marxist ideology is wrong.”
