Later this month, the Clinton Foundation is throwing a big gala to honor its 2014 Global Citizen Award winner, actor Leonardo DiCaprio. But with this hoity-toity gala, so much for Hillary being the “populist” woman of the people.
As Hillary and her surrogates attempt to recast the former First Lady and Secretary of State as a populist woman of the people, her Clinton Foundation is set to celebrate with a dozen famous and high powered citizens of the world during its September 21 soirée.
Famed actor DiCaprio is being honored for his work around the world with his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. But DiCaprio isn’t the only famous attendee of the Global Citizen Award celebration in Manhattan, New York.
Also in attendance will be Seth Meyers, host of Late Night With Seth Meyers, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, actress Eva Longoria, and music producer Randy Jackson.
Along with DiCaprio, honorees include Atifete Jahjaga, President of the Republic of Kosovo; Hayat Sindi, Founder and CEO, i2 Institute; and Greg Asbed and Lucas Benitez, Co-founders, Coalition of Immokalee Workers.
Performers will include Aloe Blacc, Natalie Merchant, and Jason Mraz with special guests Raining Jane, and The Roots.
“Collaboration and turning ideas into action are core to the ethos of the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton Foundation,” Chelsea Clinton told The Hollywood Reporter. “Hollywood, likewise, relies on collaboration to bring creative visions to life and has been an excellent partner to the foundation across a number of our efforts.”
Also attending the event will be President Obama; Jordan’s King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein; GM CEO Mary Barra; Melinda French Gates, wife of financier Bill Gates; World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim; former Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr.; Ford Foundation chief Darren Walker, and others.
