Bomb squad called to Rush Limbaugh residence (UPDATED)

Details sketchy at this point:

The bomb squad has been called to the Palm Beach home of Rush Limbaugh.

Officials say security found a suspicious package and called for assistance.

Likely related to this from earlier in the day:

RushConservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, already under fire from Democrats over his language in discussing a Georgetown University law student who testified about contraception, ratcheted up his rhetoric on Thursday, saying the student should post an online sex video if taxpayers are forced to pay for contraception.

Limbaugh on Wednesday had referred to student Sandra Fluke as a “slut” for supporting a requirement that health insurance cover contraception. On his radio show Thursday, Limbaugh went a little further:

“So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had called on Limbaugh to apologize Thursday about the “slut” comment, made after Fluke testified recently about contraception before an unofficial Democratic committee.

Here’s what Limbaugh said on Wednesday’s edition of Premiere Radio Networks’ The Rush Limbaugh Show:

“What does it say about the college coed Susan Fluke [sic], who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.

“She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.

“The johns, that’s right. We would be the johns — no! We’re not the johns. Well — yeah, that’s right. Pimp’s not the right word.”

Inartful certainly.

But his words are true.

We just can’t say it anymore because the culture embraces sex as if it were a god.

And to some, it is.

Clearly.

UPDATE: More details now available:

At a press conference at the Limbaugh property, Palm Beach Police spokesman Fred Hess said the package appears to not be dangerous or hazardous. He said it was delivered late this afternoon and was X-rayed, as is all mail sent to the Limbaughs’ home. When Limbaugh’s staff saw what appeared to be wires in the package through the X-ray, they called police.

The package was sent by a man in Pennsylvania as a “business opportunity” for Limbaugh, Hess said. The man was not identified, but when authorities called him he apologized, Hess said.

The package contained an electronic placque commemorating the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth. No further details about the plaque were immediately available.

Earlier in the day, ABC News reported, Limbaugh made national headlines when he rang in on his radio show with derogatory comments about a woman who wanted to testify last month on Capitol Hill about the need for birth control coverage. The Senate killed a proposal today to throw out President Obama’s President Obama’s contraception mandate, ABC reported, and Limbaugh opined about the ensuing backlash his remarks drew from House Democrats.

No connection between the package and Limbaugh’s comments has been made, however. The man told authorities he merely meant to offer Limbaugh a business opportunity.
