Deconstructing SlutWalk

Our favorite photoblogger, zombie, informs us that he’s back in form with a full-length photo essay on the San Francisco edition of SlutWalk, which turns out to be a rather confused protest. As Zombie puts it, ‘[a]t SlutWalks, feminist desmoiselles trying to look both sexy and intimidating gather in public for a communal howl against rape and victimhood.” The protest originated in Canada after a Toronto policeman, invited to instruct assembled students at a crime prevention conference how to not become the victims of rape, concluded his talk with one extra bit of advice: “Women should avoid dressing like sluts.”

To protest, women are dressing like sluts. Of course this being San Francisco the usual array of people with different agendas turn out too…
