Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was almost killed by a crazed would-be assassin months ago, just entered the House floor to cast her first vote since her wounding — and voted for the debt ceiling increase package. She’s currently getting a standing ovation, and may even speak. Her vote was, quite possibly, the “deciding” vote in passing the bill, which has passed 269-161.
Update: Giffords did not speak publicly, leaving the question of how impaired her ability to speak is. However, she was walking, talking, and smiling effortlessly, and looked to say a few words to her colleagues.
Update 2: Apparently she was greeted by Vice-president Biden, who welcomed her to the “cracked-skull club.” Biden has had two craniotomies for aneurysms.
