Apparently we were having some issues with commenting this evening. Long story short, our database server had stopped. Our system caches pages so that the site keeps running for a period of time even if the server is down, though in this case the server itself appeared to still be running, just not the database service. Normally I’m automatically notified of any errors with critical services like the database, but for some reason I was not this time. That failure is something I’ll be investigating with our hosting provider.
Everything appears to be back to normal now, but I’m monitoring it too make sure it doesn’t reoccur…
