I heard this yesterday, and listened in disbelief.
I really am not sure about the answer to this, but, on Memorial Day, isn’t it almost a duty of the President to visit The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?
From The Washington Post:
Obama will use Memorial weekend for a trip home to Chicago
With the long Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, President Obama is finally addressing one of the great broken promises of his administration: his early pledge to return home to Chicago every six weeks or so.
In 16 months at the White House, the Obamas have been back home just once – in February of 2009. But they plan to make the trip over Memorial Day weekend, an official said. After arriving on Thursday night, they will visit with friends and participate in private events.
On Monday, Obama will make remarks at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, south of Chicago – missing the usual tradition of presidents speaking at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day.
Vice President Biden and his wife will appear in Obama’s place, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as holding a breakfast for Gold Star families — families whose loved ones died in military service — at the White House earlier that day.
Obama hasn’t been back to Chicago since February of 2009. Left out of the article is that his visit was for an intimate Valentine’s Day dinner with Michelle.
He can go back to Chicago any time he pleases. He chooses Memorial Day to do this?
I’m reserving judgment on this because I really am not sure if it is a given that the President pretty much always visits Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day.
Obama has 364 other days to take a trip to his home town. That he chose a day of such sacred and solemn meaning on which to do it seems pretty disrespectful, no matter where he may go in Illinois to observe Memorial Day.
Perhaps he could have gone to Chicago next week.
Well, he has something much more important to do, showing his true priorities.

Paul McCartney To Sing For Obama
Sir Paul McCartney will perform at the White House next week as he accepts an award from US President Barack Obama.
The 67-year-old former Beatles singer will be presented with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at a ceremony in Washington D.C. next Wednesday. After accepting the award, McCartney will sing for Obama, his wife Michelle and other distinguished guests in the residence’s lavish East Room.
The Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill and Jerry Seinfeld are expected to attend the award ceremony, while Jack White, Dave Grohl, Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello will also perform. The complete concert and award presentation will be broadcast on American television in July.
The Gershwin Prize was established in 2008 to recognised musicians who have dedicated their entire lifetime to songwriting. The inaugural award was given to Paul Simon, and last year’s prize went to Stevie Wonder.

Yup. These musicians who help save the world, sacrificed their lives, and protected our country from harm deserve official Presidential attendance.
Is Obama just stupid or is it true disdain for our country?
