My inner voice right now is screaming to invoke the infamous “24 Hour Rule” on this story, because it’s one of those that I should be most suspicious of. It confirms my own beliefs and conforms to my own biases that I want to believe it, I want to shelve my skepticism, I want to embrace it as reality and shout it from the rooftops.
My inner voice is telling me to wait and see how it develops, to get some confirming details before running with it as fast and as loud as I can.
My inner voice is warning me that there’s too much of a chance that this story could blow up in my face, that the whole thing could be misunderstood or exaggerated or even made up out of whole cloth.
My inner voice can take this as a good opportunity to shut the fuck up.
Remember the old saying that there’s nothing worse than war? Bullshit. One thing worse than war is a war when one side refuses to fight back. Then “war” becomes “slaughter” or “genocide.”
We aren’t starting this war, assholes. But we are the ones far better equipped to end it.
