Newsweek is reporting that Attorney General Eric Holder is leaning toward appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Bush administration interrogation tactics and The New York Times is hyperventilating about Vice President Cheney allegedly giving a direct order to the CIA to conceal a program from Congress.
Four knowledgeable sources tell NEWSWEEK that (Holder) is now leaning toward appointing a prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration’s brutal interrogation practices, something the president has been reluctant to do. While no final decision has been made, an announcement could come in a matter of weeks, say these sources, who decline to be identified discussing a sensitive law-enforcement matter. ….”I hope that whatever decision I make would not have a negative impact on the president’s agenda,” he says. “But that can’t be a part of my decision.”
Uh huh. Only Newsweek would repeat this propganda verbatim but, make no mistake, the official rehabilitation of Nancy Pelosi has begun. Does the timing of these revelations strike anyone as suspicious? Think for a moment about the Realpolitik involved here and focus on the fact that the Obama adminstartion would crawl over broken glass to distract the public’s attention from a failed stimulus, failed cap and trade, fading ObamaCare, sinking polls and a cratering economy. What makes me think this would have been front page news last weekend if Sarah Palin hadn’t made her announcement?
Let’s assume just for fun that AG Holder actually is operating independently. Who will be the actual targets of this investigation? George Bush? Not likely given the protections of executive priveledge. Dick Cheney? Not likely for the same reasons. President Bush’s advisors? Not likely either, for reasons that are protected by executive priveldge and lack of evidence (they did nothing wrong). Congress?…. (OK, that was a joke.) Which CIA do we believe, the one that sabotagued President Bush or the one that allegedly lied to Nancy Pelosi?
The entire torture prosecution meme, and the Potemkin Panetta “lying to Congress” Theatre, is all part of a two scene drama: the rehabilitation of Nancy Pelosi and the diversion of attention from a failing Obama policy in multiple areas. The torture debate was settled months ago but the egos in the Democratic Congress and a sinking Obama presidency require a new distraction now that Sarah Palin is off the front page.
Bruce, while I can appreciate how surpised you are that a discussion about your alleged dick has apparently arisen, I am afraid I must inform you that your (and your dick’s) 15 minutes of fame have long since expired.
you lost.
Let’s see what ‘secret CIA intelligence gathering plan’ that Cheney, the darling of conservatives, wanted to keep secret from Congress, that HughS is so sure is protected by executive privilege..Is this deja-vu?
The exact nature of the program remains a mystery. This official hinted that the secret program involved assassinations overseas but declined to provide further details…
I may be anticipating what is going to be uncovered, but I recall similar black covert operations plans which were put into place, aided by the CIA, after the first Sept. 11, 9/11 in 1973, the Pinochet coup, which resulted in Operation Condor and the assassination of liberal Orlando Leitner in Washington DC by CIA asset, DINA American, Michael Townly, a revelation which helped to produce the
Church committee and reforms in the incorrigible CIA, particulary about assassinating foreign leaders.

You’re seeing a whole team of psychotherapists, aren’t you.
A bit late for the Obama administration to say “Oh we didnt know about this top secret program until June” isnt it?
I mean as head of the CIA Paneta should be at least aware of all the highly top secret programs.
Is Panetta actually saying “hey I have been in charge of the CIA for 3-4 months and my subordinates didnt see fit to brief me on this?”
Something smells a bit fishy.
