Weekend Caption Contest™ Winners

This week’s Weekend Caption Contest™ was a spectacular hit. There were so many excellent captions it’s a shame I can only honor seven of them. The assignment this week was to caption the following picture:

Employees of the Rocky Mountain News react during the announcement that the newspaper will close in this photo provided to Reuters by the Rocky Mountain News February 26, 2009. Media conglomerate EW Scripps Co will shut down the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rocky Mountain News after failing to lure qualified buyers, as the industry endures a painful and prolonged economic downturn. The 150-year-old Denver newspaper will run its final edition on Friday but employees will remain on the Scripps payroll through April 28. REUTERS/Joe Mahoney/Rocky Mountain News/Handout

Here are the winning entries:

1) (retired military) – “Reporters lied
Newspapers died

2) (vader06) – “I feel so betrayed. I thought I would never have to work again, my taxes would go down and Obama was going to pay my mortgage…

3) (fustian) – “Now who will provide the leftist propaganda to Coloradoans hungry for guidance in these times of trouble?

4) (J-Ho) – “And Helen Thomas still has a job???

5) (jim2) – ““How can this be?” she sobbed. “Our narrative was correct!

6) (Pretzel Logic) – Guy in glasses: “I need to get her in the supply room one last time.

The Readers Choice Award this week went to retired military’s winning entry. In it’s place I offer another excellent caption:

(DJ Drummond) – “Rocky Mountain News employees listen to Obama’s plan to save newspapers … by taxing the hell out of employers, building fifty more Planned Parenthood offices in Colorado, and creating the Office of Print Regulation.

A new edition of the Wizbang Weekend Caption Contest™ will debut Friday morning.
