Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney’s “relief voyage” to Gaza met with an abrupt end yesterday and had to return to the Lebanese seaport of Tyre after experiencing a rude introduction to the Israeli navy.
McKinney’s account of what happened differed with official government statements (sound familiar?). As the guys at Powerline noted, it’s not a good idea to treat the Israeli navy like Capitol Hill police officers.
The former Green Party presidential candidate and champion of the truther movement is a widely recognized advocate of Palestinian causes and a member of the Free Gaza Solidarity Movement. McKinney is a frequent critic of US policy regarding Israel and her father, former Georgia state Rep. Billy McKinney, said:
“his daughter had traveled to Cuba a few weeks ago and was “very well received” by President Raul Castro and that she had recently tried to visit Syria but had been turned away when she attempted to board the flight.”
The elder McKinney is perhaps most remembered for his statements after his daughter’s failed attempt in the 2002 Georgia congressional primary when he attributed her loss to “J.E.W.S.”:
“Jews have bought everybody. Jews.” In case the reporter didn’t understand, he spelled the word: “J-E-W-S.”
The leftist wacko McKinney family affair that is making headlines this week in the Middle East is an embarrassment to the United States. I wonder when the righteous New York Times and Washington Post will call for the Obama administration to “distance themselves” from these lunatics.
