In the days since Barack Obama declared Sarah Palin’s family “off limits” there’s sure been a lot of talk of about the size of her family, and their reproduction, from those connected with his campaign. First there’s Howard Gutman, an Obama bundler and original member of his finance committee blasting Palin for having the temerity to run for office while she has a 17-year-old daughter and a baby with with Down’s Syndrome. An Obama spokesman says rejected Gutman’s comments but didn’t shed any light on Gutman’s role in the Obama campaign or if he is still a member.
Right on the heels of that outrageous slur comes a more subtle, backhanded dig that relies on previous smears to make the same point in a more roundabout manner. In an interview to be broadcast Monday, Michelle Obama goes right into “off limits” territory.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Michelle Obama says she and Democrat Barack Obama probably won’t have any more children because the presidential race is enough additional responsibility.
“I think I’m done,” she told TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in an interview. “I think our third child is this campaign.”
The Obama’s have two daughters – Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.
Michelle Obama, 44, also agreed with her husband’s response to the news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter was pregnant.
“This shouldn’t be an issue for political discussion,” Michelle Obama said.
Without Gutman’s outrageous attack you might not get inference in Michelle Obama’s reference to the campaign being a third child. With the Gutman attack out in the open (and quickly and easily denied), Michelle Obama’s volunteering of “off limits” personal details on her future reproductive activities provides a distinct contrast to Sarah Palin’s family with their new baby and grand-daughter on the way.
Of course that will send a message to people like flaming douchebag Andrew Sullivan (who has gone into full meltdown mode and printed every unsubstantiated rumor he could get his hands on about Sarah Palin) to paint Palin and her daughters as breeders. In fact he’s getting a little ahead of the message with Saturday’s post: The Softer Side Of a “F-ing Redneck”…
