On every unauthoritative exercise of power by the legislature must the people rise in rebellion or their silence be construed into a surrender of that power to them? If so, how many rebellions should we have had already? –Thomas Jefferson
The country of can do, became the country of can’t do. We do not invest wisely for the good of the country. We invest poorly. We invest in Taxes, we invest in Poverty, we invest entitlements. All of these investments only produce more taxes, more poverty, more entitlements. Thus we are investing in debt. As far as I can tell, none of these investments produce a useful product. As far as I can see, the old adage of if you want more of it, subsidize it, if less, tax it. (Via Common Sense Political Thought)
12 year old girl sues father to have punishment lifted. First, the father banned his 12-year-old daughter from going online after she posted photos of herself on a dating site. Then she allegedly had a row with her stepmother, so the father said his girl couldn’t go on a school trip. The court agreed with the girl. So, if you live in Canada, the government can now second guess your parental decisions. And there are those here in the US who want to copy them. (Via Conservative-Compendium.)
Bush’s radio address With Obama’s latest utterings taking up the headline portion of the daily news, readers may have overlooked President Bush’s efforts to encourage Congress to open vast federal lands and offshore sites to oil exploration and recovery. (Via Flopping Aces)

Counting his chickens before they hatch In one of the more shockingly presumptuous acts I have ever witnessed in Presidential politics, a non-incumbent candidate for the Presidency of the United States has actually taken the time to design a seal for himself that resembles the Great Seal of the United States and the Seal of the President of the United States. Make the election about Iraq In his St. Paul victory speech, Barack Obama pledged again to pull out of Iraq. Rather than “continue a policy in Iraq that asks everything of our brave men and women in uniform and nothing of Iraqi politicians,… [i]t’s time for Iraqis to take responsibility for their future.” (Via Patriot Post)
Un-glued idiot of the day June 19, 2008 is given to Lou Dobbs for his statement on “Lou Dobbs Tonight” that President Bush should be impeached for the tomato salmonella outbreak. (Via Strong As An Ox and Nearly As Smart)
Did the MSM discover an unprincipled, empty suit? “In February 2007, I proposed a novel way to preserve the strength of the public financing system in the 2008 election. My plan requires both major party candidates to agree on a fundraising truce, return excess money from donors, and stay within the public financing system for the general election….If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”- Barack Obama, November 2007 (Via This Ain’t Hell)
Maybe someone can explain Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods? Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are? Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago? When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?
