I just saw a link this morning at Drudge that blared: “Paper: Enthusiastic Clinton Supporter ORGANIZED Rev. Wright at Press Club.” Immediately, I was intrigued. I hadn’t seen Reverend Wright’s comments at the Press Club, but I knew it was devastating for Obama. Nonetheless, I couldn’t believe that the good reverend could actually be working against Obama purposefully. But, maybe he is. Check out the first few paragraphs of New York Daily News’ opinion piece:
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright couldn’t have done more damage to Barack Obama’s campaign if he had tried. And you have to wonder if that’s just what one friend of Wright wanted.
Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.
A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).
It also turns out that Reynolds – introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club “who organized” the event – is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter.
Here’s the photo that accompanies the article.
If it’s true that Wright is working for Hillary, how did she get to him? What did she have to promise him? Did she have to pay him off some how? The Clintons are tenacious politicians who play dirty. They will do whatever it takes to win this nomination, even if it means siding with Wright and using him to destroy Obama.
Now, the question is, if, and this is still a big if, Wright is now working for and supporting the Clinton campaign, will this hurt Hillary as much as it’s hurt Obama? It should because Obama can completely separate himself from Wright and denounce his comments while pointing to the fact that he’s is supporting Hillary.
Errol Louis, author of the opinion piece, expands on the possibility that Wright’s helping Clinton:
I don’t know if Reynolds’ eagerness to help Wright stage a disastrous news conference with the national media was a way of trying to help Clinton – my queries to Reynolds by phone and e-mail weren’t returned yesterday – but it’s safe to say she didn’t see any conflict between promoting Wright and supporting Clinton.
It’s hard to exaggerate how bad the actual news conference was. Wright, steeped in an honorable, fiery tradition of Bible-based social criticism, cheapened his arguments and his movement by mugging for the cameras, rolling his eyes, heaping scorn on his critics and acting as if nobody in the room was learned enough to ask him a question.
AJ Strata also commented on Louis’ Daily News piece and writes this, with the assumption that Wright and Clinton are now best buds:
I predicted the Clintons would do whatever it would take to win the nomination, and that includes turing allies against Obama. It seems Rev Wright has decided to switch camps undermine his one-time parishioner, which he has done. The black community could split wide open over this act of betrayal.
And this is exactly what the Clintons are hoping, praying, will happen.
