In an e-mail dated June 5, 2007, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers told ICE Director Julie Myers that New Haven, Connecticut’s Board of Alderman had the previous evening voted to become the first city in the nation to offer IDs to illegal immigrants. That ID program had been under debate for several months.
So, what do you suppose happened? Yeah, you guessed it:
On June 6, 2007, ICE agents swept through New Haven and arrested an estimated 30 illegal aliens. Planning for the raid had begun in April and initially the raid was to have been conducted in May.
How’s that for “sending a message?”
