Sen. Larry Craig, voicing deep sorrow for disappointing the people of Idaho, announced his resignation today without a word about the arrest and guilty plea for disorderly conduct in an airport men’s room that had forced him to resign his seat.
“I have little control over what people choose to believe,” said Craig, who earlier had said he did “nothing wrong” and only had pled guilty in an attempt to make the case “go away.”
“But clearly my name is important to me and my family is very important also,” said Craig, with his wife and two of their children standing beside him. “Having said that, to pursue my legal options as I consider to serve Idaho would be an unwanted distraction.”

As for the double standard the GOP is practicing between David Vitter, who actually did engage in criminal sex acts, and Craig, who was guilty of nothing more than solicitation, it’s simply shameful.
