Independence Day

My family will be celebrating Independence Day at our community festival that begins at 8 in the morning (we won’t be showing up until 10 for the parade though), and continues throughout the day with live music, all kinds of booths giving out freebies and selling stuff too, a street dance and ending just after sunset with a big fireworks display. My kids are into history in a pretty big way. They both love reading stories about famous Americans. Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross is a favorite, as is Amelia Earhart. They like the stories of famous women in history. We will be talking about some famous Americans for a bit tomorrow, but will mostly be eating hotdogs and cupcakes and enjoying the summer weather that thankfully is not nearly as humid as most of our past 4th of July celebrations in NC have been. Best wishes to you and yours for a fun and safe 4th of July. Please remember to say a prayer for those who secure the freedom we celebrate — the men and women of the U.S. military.

Dan Riehl has a great Independence Day post up at Riehl World View. Rick Moran is live blogging the Continental Congress (July 3, 1776). Happy Independence Day!
