Drudge is reporting that President Bush will make a major announcement in his news conference today. I’m guessing the buzz will be that he will announce Secretary Rumsfeld’s resignation.
In a press conference earlier this morning, Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (yuck) said that if President Bush really wants to show that he’s interested in working with the Democrats on a new path for Iraq, he needs to get rid of the civilian leadership at the Pentagon. That means Rumsfeld. The Dems have been gunning for him for years. Let’s see if they get their way today.
Update: Fox News confirms that Secretary Rumsfeld is resigning.
Update II: Ex-CIA chief Robert Gates will be Secretary of Defense.
Update III: President Bush on Rove:
“I Obviously Was Working Harder on the Campaign Than He Was”
Update IV: Dr. Robert Michael Gates:
He’s currently the president of Texas A&M University. He was director of the CIA under former President George HW Bush from 1991-1993. Prior to that he spent 26 years in the CIA and the National Security Council.
