The only polls that matter are the ones on Election Day and those have not been taken yet. Scott Elliott at Election Projection says the margins in many, many races are razor thin and could go either way so the outcome really is in our hands. In addition to voting, volunteer to Get Out The Vote for your favorite candidates. The RNC has a great online tool that allows people to do GOTV calls from home. Be sure to check it out and do as much as your schedule will allow. What you do could make the difference.
Update: I got a special link for Wizbang readers to use to link to the RNC GOTV call from home program. Click here to show the blogosphere what Wizbang readers can do! Don’t let those other blogs show us up, and at the same time do your part to help hold the House and Senate.
(I replaced the earlier GOTV link so that now both links above will direct readers on behalf of Wizbang.)
…out of yours and into ours.
I thought Lorie and the other Old Maid might benefit from the words of this song……
Desperado
Desperado, why don’t you come to your senses
You’ve been out ridin’ fences,
for so long – now.
Ohh you’re a hard one.
I know that you’ve got your reasons.
These things that are pleasin’you
Can hurt you somehow.
Don’t you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She’ll beat you if she’s able.
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table.
But you only want the ones
That you can’t get.
Desperado,
Ohhhh you aint getting no younger.
Your pain and your hunger,
They’re driving you home.
And freedom, ohh freedom.
Well that’s just some people talking.
Your prison is walking through this world all alone.
Don’t your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won’t snow and the sun won’t shine.
It’s hard to tell the night time from the day.
And your loosing all your highs and lows
aint it funny how the feeling goes
away…
Desperado,
Why don’t you come to your senses?
Climb down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin’, but there’s a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you.
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you…ohhh..hooo
before it’s too..oooo.. late.
John Kerry’s *** monumental *** political blunder has, without question, tipped the balance of this election in the Republican’s favor. So when the Dems wake up diappointed on Wednesday, they will know who to blame…
Desperado Kerry indeed…
archtop – It is time to buy a vowel, you need a clue. Were talking about the Republican’t Party here, right? – they can’t get anything right these days. The Kerry issue was bungled badly by the Republicans, and blown way out of proportion.
You guys came off like desperate losers – no one wants to join a losing team. You’ve lost lot more votes, and gained none.
Sorry Lee – you guys wouldn’t be here trying to trash Lorie’s post if you weren’t deeply concerned about Kerry’s bungled “joke” and the state of the election in general. I stand by my prediction. Kerry loses it for the Democrats…
As proven in threads throughout the week – including many today, the liberals (Lee, Muiguea, et.al.) have once again been proved liars, deceivers and total nitwits (sorry the word isn’t strong enough).
KKKerry is simply the mouthpiece for them all – Haters of America, the military, the troops….
Sad. Very sad….
For everyone to note here:
Lee thinks that 30 seats will change in the house. After everyone sees what the true count is on Tuesday, you will have an actual number to now know what his opinions are worth. Remember, 30 is his number.
I say we lose 9 seats (net) in the House.
In the Senate, I say we lose a net one.
Please remember these numbers and compare them to the actual number on Wed., Nov. 8th.
I have proposed to Lee a non-monetary wager multiple times, but he has never addressed it or seems to disappear from the thread (apparently to go to Sunday school, as he often does post on Sundays).
@ Semanticleo
You gonna let somebody love you? Is it too late? Yup. That’s what I thought. Bye bye.
“Please remember these numbers and compare them to the actual number on Wed., Nov. 8th.”
Please give Lori a pep talk. She apparently sees it differently.
Democrats will take the house with ease. I don’t recall predicting a 30 set exchange nehemiah, but I’ll take your word for it.
Wait a minute, you’re a Republican right? I won’t take your word for it – show me where I said that. A link, a date, which post it was under – anything.
Prove you’re not just a Republican liar, and are really just a noisy troll. Post your proof on this thread please, we’re waiting….
Wow…lots of nervous Democrats here! I mean if it’s over, then please go home and revel in your victory. I mean it’s in the bag, right? Just like 2004? Like 2002?
This will not help
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5112770,00.html
Remember…
no attacks on US soil since 9/11. Great economy, unemployment is almost nil, interest rates down and steady, gas prices down, DOW thru the roof.
Why change that? Vote early and often.
You would think the libs would have learned after suffering grievous defeats in 2000, 2002, and 2004. But then if they could learn, they wouldn’t be liberals. Ah well, enjoy waking up to PRESIDENT BUSH on November 8th. And then 8 years of President McCain. Have fun at your Kossack parties- because you won’t be controlling this country for a long time to come.
“…and are really just a noisy troll.””
Gee Lee…talk about the pot calling the kettle…
“This will not help.”
Yeah, nogo, because what one pervert pastor does will affect every race in the country. Yep, all us here sister-screwin’ knuckle-draggin’ Jeebus freak homophobes are gonna desert the GOP for the party of treason, murder and perversion.
Christ on a crutch, you lefties are asshats.
You know what? I wasn’t planning to man the GOTV phones, since I’m stuck in the liberal hellhole that is Massachusetts, but after listening to Lee and nogo whistle past the graveyard, I’m signing up. If we lose – well, I did my best. If we win – in your face, hippies!!
That is the LAST nogo link i go to.
OLD news and NO news.
Get a life nogo.
If the liberals win, you won’t have one.
Up until 2000, I considered myself a Democrat. I found no interest in things political. It wasn’t until then that I really began to compare what I believed to what the Democratic party was supporting that I reconsidered my party affiliation. I now consider myself an independent with strong libertarian leanings. I want less government influence over the lives of individuals… a society free from the shackles of government.
I’ve been disgusted with the tone that the Democrats have taken over the past few years. We can disagree and have a reasoned discourse without the sophmoric name calling. Although I am displeased with the Republicans, an election is not a referrendum… it’s an either-or choice. For the first time in my life, I’m contemplating voting a straight ticket simply out of disgust. Now feel free to continue with the name calling and character attacks, Lee et al.
Lee,
I’m happy to see you actually addressed this topic (outcome of House races). You I’m sure will remember in these last two weeks cutting and pasting part of an article from Charlie Cook where he projected that the number of seats which will change hands is much more likely closer to 30 than the needed 15.
Are you now saying that you don’t agree with what you posted as evidence? That’s fine, since you never officially took up the wager. I would propose it again, but I don’t think it would be very enjoyable (in earnest) to see you not posting at Wizbang for a whole year. And seeing how active you are as a commenter, I would not like to see such an outcome (both for the community and for you). So for me it will just be a curiosity to see who is right or closer to being right. In addition to the numbers up there, I also make the following predictions.
Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri: Not in play.
NJ: Will stay Dem.
MD: Will probably stay Dem.
Montana: Will stay Republican
Ohio: Will probably stay Republican
Pennsylvania: Will stay Republican
Questions?
By the way, “not in play” does not necessarily mean that the margins will be big. I think it will be close (as it always seems to be recently) in Missouri. But close doesn’t necessarily mean competitive.
Sham was close to Secretariat in 1973 (at least in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, definitely not in the Belmont), but Sham was never competitive against him.
Don’t use electoral-vote.com for judging the races either. They have the Dem’s picking up 38 seats in the House. Of course, if you look at the individual races things look different. Every race that they have listed lean Dem, Tossup and lean Rep is included in this pickup.
Actually nehemiah, I’d make the comparison to the 1978 Triple Crown duel between Affirmed and Alydar, with one big difference.
Even in losing there was still a nobility to Alydar. There’s almost nothing noble about the democrat party these days.
Another difference was that Alydar was a stud, in every sense (remember Alysheba — winner of the 1987 Derby) — the Dems, instead of on the giving end (stud), are better characterized as being those that easily receive (sometimes known as whores).
Fatman, I’ve thought about that famous duo of Affirmed/Alydar (I like Alydar of the two). I don’t agree that they make a good illustration for my case exactly because Alydar was more than competitive against Affirmed. In the case of McCaskill in Missouri, she’ll get close but there’s no scenario in which I see her as the victor. Unless they pull something like when the person running for the office died and they got the sympathy vote. In which case I wonder what Mr. McCaskill’s politics are like (I assume she has a husband, unless she is a lesbian who wed in NJ).
LIBERALS, YOU’RE ON NOTICE!
I’m working the polls in my district on Nov. 7. There will be no nonsense! In the last two elections in my district since I moved here, the Lefty Loons came out in force like zombies trying to break down the mall doors for the holy flesh of the living.
Not this year: all voters shall be able to park, walk and enter the church and casts their votes. Proper documentation and adult behavior allow you to exercise your right to vote.
The Indecisive Lefties and so-called “indies” won’t come out to vote the Dems into a majority! Why can’t the mentally ill steakheads see that?!
Another way to say it would be:
If Alydar raced Affirmed again, I would not be certain who would win.
If Secretariat raced Sham, the outcome would be certain. Sham may be able to stay only a couple lengths behind, but it would not be a race where you really didn’t know who would win.
And McCaskill’s a horse’s ass.
The Indecisive Lefties and so-called “indies” won’t come out to vote the Dems into a majority! Why can’t the mentally ill steakheads see that?!
steak111111, I think you have just been insulted.
barneyG2000:
Answering your question from “Regan” thread:
“How about this, if Reagan wouldn’t allow Cuba to build an airport in Grenada, would he allow:
-N. Korea to test long range missiles and nukes
-Iran to build nukes
-Syria and Iran to plot the overthrow of Lebanon
-Hugo Chavez to bitch slap you at the UN
-The prime minister of Iraq to order US troops off their post, and abandon one of our own to the militia”
-N.Korea’s tests have been an ultra failure, and we have probably learned more from them than they have.
-Everytime the administration does something unilateraly you scream for the UN, and everytime they try to work through the UN you scream “why aren’t you doing something”. I wish you would make up your minds.
– I believe that Lebanon falls in the same category, but there is also an ally (Israel) who seems to be handling that one for us. (Not that it’s any of our business to start with.)
– I suppose that Bush could have the Secret Service whack Chavez, but that might draw some criticism from, let’s see – Everybody.
– As to the recent event in Iraq, I don’t know the facts yet, so will hold my comments, as you should before you get egg on your face yet again.
– Once again you spout a bunch of talking points without voicing any opinion as to sollutions, other than “we hate Bush”.
– Liberals are like stelth bombers – it’s hard to tell where they are, until John Kerry opens his mouth.
In the “you can fool some of the people some of the time” department, Americans are finally getting wise to Fox News. MSNBC’s Count Down Rates are up 67% over last year while Fox News is down 25%.
Sounds like the rightwing network has lost it’s grip to influencing this election.
That’s good news. I’ve always thought that Fox News has tried to be too balanced. I would prefer for example a “Hannity and Coulter” vs. a “Hannity and Colmes”.
Maybe if FNC tanks (too bad it’s not likely, as they are still overwhelmingly #1 and something like ten times the ratings of MSNBC), we’ll get a REAL conservative news channel — something as much right as CNN is left.
VagaBond asked why people would consider voting for anyone other than Republican candidates when everything is going so well.
He gives a few reasons.
Here’s a few of mine *
We’ve been lead into a mismanaged war and our soldiers are dying and getting maimed for a lie.
The government keeps itself in power with fear mongering, smear campaigns, illegal fake news feeds and fake reporters. Remember Jeff Gannon?
The chickenhawks and corporatists are making huge war profits (did you know KBR, a Halliburton subsidiary, charges the US government $45.00 for a case of CocaCola?). That’s what you get when you hand out no-bid contracts to your buddies.
This president finds it more politicaly usefull to let Osama run around loose, so he can use him to install fear. Bush no longer thinks about OBL. The most powerfull military in the world, and Osama has been running around loose for 5 years, and not one person has been repremanded or demoted.
This president makes jokes about finding WMD while soldiers are blown to bits.
This administration has created or supported record debt, lobbyist running amuck, and record corruption.
This administration has presided over a weakening dollar and huge trade imbalances. Your personal share of this for the last 5 years is $9,000.00, not including the costs for the Iraq war. That’s true for every man, woman and child in America. If you are married and have two kids, this admistration and their economic policies has saddled you with $36,000.00 of interest bearing debt, in only 5 years, not including the costs of Iraq.
This administration has divided America and damaged it’s international reputation by it’s war crimes, illegal wiretaps, loss of liberties, torture, violations of the Geneva conventions, and it’s suspension of Habeus Corpus.
This administration has increased wealth concentration, watched while poverty rose, wages stagnated, left 60 million people uninsured and caused medical costs to soar, while drug companies made record profits.
This administration has neglected the environment, denied global warming, and backed away from our international treaties designed to protect the planet.
This administration supports shipping jobs overseas and union busting. It won’t protect worker safety. If you show a nipple on TV, you can now be fined $500,000.00. If you endanger the life of a coal miner, you can now be fined $60.00. These priorities are wrong.
Anyway, that’s a few reasons why people may not decide to vote for continued Republican control over the congress.
Hopefully, we can get the privatized voting machines to work…
John
* (MuirGeo provided much of the material for this post, which I’ve reformatted a bit. I’d like to thank him for putting together a pretty decent list, and I hope I’ve not offended him by misusing his content.)
And McCaskill’s a horse’s ass.

Truer words were never spoken.
And A. Null? You can report “Mission Accomplished” to Markos or DU or wherever you’re trolling for. Though I suspect they won’t have the deck of an aircraft carrier ready for your speech about bravely attacking the “wingnuts” in their lair.
Well the Dems have finaly released there top (6) items for their first 100 days in power. Two of them being, raise the minimum wage and more money for higher education. Why don’t they just stand at the polling places and offer a cigar to everyone who votes for them?
All that screaming about Iraq, and they don’t even think it is important enough to put in their top (6) items. Probably because they haven’t the foggiest idea what they would do. Hell, they are still arguing over the drapes in Pelosi’s office.
USMC Pilot, is that the best you got? Reagan single handily defeats the evil empire with one hand tied behind his back (by the Libs) and Bush can’t even overthrow a third world prick like Chavez?
A Lib (JFK) at least attempted to assassinate Castro.
Bush really is a shrub!
USMC:
Though I disagree with 99% of your point of view, I have pretty much respected your comments. But I have to say I smell desperation even from you. What a silly comment about “the drape in Pelosi’s office.”
Try some original thought, not the regurgitation of Limbaugh, Melhman, Hannity and Bush’s silly shit one liners.
Do you folks really really believe the Nancy Pelosi bogeyman talking point is going to bring over the voters you really need – the independents?
Oh, by the way. Based on your pussiefied (sic?)response to real treats, when tough action is called for, what were you shopping for pilot, panties?
USMC Pilot,
I believe the list you qoute is for the first 100 HOURS, not 100 days.
The Iraq issue took years to get to it’s current state, and it’s going to take a bit longer than 100 hours to unravel.
John
Hugh,
At least in my case, and I’ve been an independent thinker most of my life never deciding ahead of time who to vote for (at least not in a party line kind of way), the thought of Nancy Pelosi really does affect how I will vote. In fact, if I were a Democrat, I would try to vote in several congressional districts next Tuesday to try to ensure that she does not get more power.
barneyG2000:
“A Lib (JFK) at least attempted to assassinate Castro.”
Spoken like a true liberal. As long as you try it’s OK. Let’s give gold medals to everyone who runs in the race, so that they will have a good self image.
President Bush got rid of Sadam Hussien(sp), who I believe has probably killed a few more people than Chavez. The best way to handle someone like Chavez is to ignore them, unless they present some threat to our security.
Pilot,
I would advocate the same in our treatment of Cesar Chavez as well. HMMM these California grapes are good.
Maybe you’ll be kind enough to let Barney try on those panties, so that Alydar can have at him.
Hugh:
I find it interesting that you comment about my statement on “drapes” rather than addressing the main topic of the Dems first 100 hours (apologies for getting that wrong).
BarneyG2000:
I have not insulted you personaly, so if you choose to start doing so to me the conversation is over. That having been said, you miss my point. There is little anyone can do when someone starts bloviating at the UN. You can make a fool out of yourself by demanding apologies, but an intelligent person just ignores what is being said. I have long ago determined that actions do speak louder than words.
To both of you:
What will the Dems do in Iraq, if they gain control of congress?
Hugh:
As to independents, I don’t realy believe that such an animal exists. People like to call themselves “independents” to appear enlightened, but most have already made up their minds long ago. My experience is that people vote their pocket book first, and then line up the rest of the items in some wierd fashion. There are 40% on the left and 40% on the right with everyone else trapped in the middle. This race will be decided like most of them, and that is by who gets out and votes. Our problem is that many party faithfuls are dissatisfied with the Republicans not acting like conservatives, and your problem is that most of the 20% in the middle don’t want to be associated with nutcases like Sheehan, Kerry and Dean. Quite frankly there are times that I want to throw up my hands and give up, but then I think about my pocket book and go to the polls and vote for the “asshole” republican.
What will the Dems do in Iraq, if they gain control of congress?
I’m sure they will stay the course. Maybe they will take the lead from Boehner, blame the march to choas on the Generals in the field and endorse Rummy for the medal of freedom. Next, they would turn over operational control of the army to Al Sadr, so the Shiite death squads can move about more efficiently.
Maybe loose 14,000 automatic rifles just to be safe. Yea, that sounds like a plan I can get behind and vote for.
PS, Come on, don’t get your panties in a bind over over a little joke.
BarneyG2000:
Obviously you don’t have an answer. Perhaps Hugh does.
Barney,
You and that guy Kerry and your little jokes! Bill Murray and John Belushi have nothing on you.
As to independents. I’m as independent as the next guy, but lately I must say that I lean a little right. To Ann that is. When they call her a nutjob, I take offense, as I consider her just as acceptably right wingish.
PS, Come on, don’t get your panties in a bind over over a little joke.
————————————————–
BArney, parody is reality when it comes to the Dems. Given their “cut-and-run” policy, this parody may be a reality when they comes to power. SOrry, I may be wrong: the dems would welcome Saddam back or at least advocate his methods of meat grinder, chopping hand, real torture chambers, rape room as better methods to pacify Iraq since many of them are saying that iraq was better under Saddam.
John…you so funny.
Most (if not all) of your reasons are opinions. The endorsement of muriegohome does not help your credibility.
The difference is I gave facts, not opinions. I think people respond more to facts.
USMC:
First of all it is not Congress that will determine foreign policy or strategic war poiicy. As you well know that is one of the powers of the executive branch.
That’s certainly a legitimate question for the dems 2008 presidential nominee. That being said, what I would hope a democratic congress would mean is that it would force Mr. Bush to look at bipartisan solutions. Hopefully the Baker non-partisan study group will come up with the solution.
I disagree with you on the independents issue. I think they may well play the key part in this race. I do agree we are about 40-40 in the split. I don’t think the economy is going to be the issue. I think it is very clearly Iraq and general disgust with a do-nothing congress . I’m not tooting the congressional dems horn here (l have my own issues with them)) but I think the dissatisfaction is like it was in ’94 and it will be taken out on the party in power.
Finally, I addressed your comment about drapes for the reason I stated. You’re the one who brought it up. You know as well as I that it is a stupid talking point – and I really believe not the kind of think the majority of voters care a whit to hear about.
Wow, those methods would seem pretty effective at changing thought and behavior. I wonder if we could utilize some version here.
Hugh may be right that the talking point and the attempt to provoke fear of a Pelosi speakership is probably not effective.
What is effective is better demonstrated by the Left. For me, the threat of losing Alec Baldwin to another country made me think fairly hard about pulling the lever for Bush. So maybe Patricia Heaton threatening to leave the country maybe a good Republican tactic that effectively emulates the Dems.
general disgust with a do-nothing congress
——————————————–
This is clearly wrong on facts. There is a long list of accomplishment for this congress
* tax cuts
* border fence
* liability reform
* judges/justices
…
just on the top of my head. Someone had a nice long list on another thread.
OK, Hugh, at least we can agree that the Dems don’t deserve to win given their shameful record. We should hope and work to make sure that the Dems don’t have power.
