Greg Tinti caught Editor & Publisher magazine deliberately misreporting details from an exerpt of Bob Woodward’s book published in The Washington Post:
During that meeting, Woodward claims that Tenet and Black warned Rice of an impending attack against the U.S. from Osama bin Laden.Editor & Publisher is reporting that an excerpt of Bob Woodward’s State Of Denial appears in today’s Washington Post with a “new 9/11 bombshell” and falsely states that the Bush administration kept secret a July 10, 2001 meeting between George Tenet, J. Cofer Black, and Condi Rice from the 9/11 Commission.
Update: Greg Tinti has more information.
Update II: Secretary Rice refutes Bob Woodward’s account:
Rice said she had no specific recollection of the meeting, stressed that the threat reporting at the time was about potential attacks abroad rather than at home, and denied she was given a warning of a possible strike on the United States.
“I don’t know that this meeting took place … what I am quite certain of is that (it) was not a meeting in which I was told that there was an impending attack and I refused to respond,” Rice told reporters as she flew to the Middle East.
“I would remember if I was told, as this account apparently says, that there was about to be an attack in the United States. And the idea that I would somehow have ignored that, I find, incomprehensible,” Rice added.
Update III: Records show that Secretary Rice did take George Tenet’s warnings very seriously:
Mr. McCormack said the records showed that, far from ignoring Mr. Tenet’s warnings, Ms. Rice acted on the intelligence and requested that Mr. Tenet make the same presentation to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Atttorney General John Ashcroft.
Of course, the NY Times buried this information deep within the article. Again, see Greg Tinti , who has been on top of this story from the beginning, for more information.
What no massive defense by the left? Lee, Mantis, Nuirego, Brian, Hugh. Were are you. Like the guy on Wallace’s show today said that he was taught in Catholic College not to lie, but if you must lie, never lie about facts. Particularly documented ones.
Zelsdorf: I just saw that a moment ago on the repeat on Fox.
They accept his and their own lies, and hope to whistle by the grave yard so most don’t take notice.
The thrust of the last comments was that our intelligence services have been greatly degraded for decades. If you know your history, you know that it was the Democrat-led “Church Commission” that gutted our intelligence capabilities with the types of things they’d like to do to the NSA and Detainee programs.
It’s too bad our schools don’t teach history, among other things, anymore. Bush/Repubs. would have had a Roosevelt-sized landslide if that had been the case.
You guys continually amaze me. Never are you willing to place any responsibility on your own party for anything. You blame the Church Committee which was when, 1972? Yet there have been 20 years of republican presidents since then and control of congress for the past 12. All that time and opportunity to do something about it. The day one of you apologists has the intellectual honesty to say your side screwed something up will be the day.
Hugh, here is a question for you. Who makes the laws? The President or Congress? If you just notice that during almost all of the time we had Republican Presidents, we had democratic congresses. If you study this information for a few hours you may deduce why what happened in 1972 was still im place in later years.
Well Zelsdorf lets see….ummmm…ok….since 1994 the republicans have been making the law. Did I get that right?
Woodward was exactly right.
Can this administration possibly become more of a joke? Do you people that support this ongoing catastrophe in the White House have any self respect? Do you folks like being lied to day after day? How can you continue to cover for this trainwreck as our great countries honor is disgraced daily.
Will any of you people have the guts to stand up for America or will you continue to cover for the delusional lies of this administration like a bunch of schoolyard sissies.
dr. lava,
In their defense, no one likes to admit they’ve been had.
In this case, they fell for some of the biggest hoaxes ever.
Imagine really believing the MSM has a liberal bias, George W. Bush has what it takes to be a dogcatcher (nevermind the leader of the most poerful country in the world’s history), or that Dems are on the side of terrorists.
You’d have to be a world class rube to buy the shit the republicans sell?
Who wants to admit they were such a fool?
